Help revive the KW scene

So the petition pretty much says it all:

http://www.petitiononline.com/edmkw/petition.html

The goal here, and it is certainly attainable, is to show the people who call the shots at various clubs (not just PR...example Tabu would be sick for having an occasional night) that there is enough draw. I'm sure everyone is aware that the kinds of nights/events that we were talking about in the "remember the PR" thread scare promoters away because they don't think clubs in KW can make money because there aren't enough people that would come out to shows. That should change because there definitely are enough people that listen to EDM and in fact are pretty obsessed (you're reading this...that's an indication. hey, this is like those bench advertisement signs). I think more people have been going to Toronto to see big acts and this has titrated people away from staying in town on a friday night (or other night of the week ftm) and attending an event with the plentiful amount of talent that we have here. Now that there are more clubs in the area, and some made in the very image of Guv, there should be more nights with cutting edge electronic music. Not just house, not just trance, but a nice variety and a variety of DJs.

PR also used to bring in some out of town DJs, some IMO pretty awesome talent (eg. Nick Pilon who was a resident @ Aria in MTL). On a larger scale, once we have a solid base of people here or who would come here, we could bring in the same big acts (talks of Armin and SvD have only been delayed due to the uncertainty of selling tickets).

In any case, for those of us who do live here and are dying to get this scene back up, please support our effort to make things happen in this regard by signing the petition. That is always a good first step and then we can move forward with putting this into action.

I should say that the Purple Room continues to have great house nights (and other similar genres) with Jace on Saturdays (I think) and this is in no way an effort to compete with that, rather to ADD to that (Fridays, like old times) and to perhaps have some additional venues in town where we don't have to hear "where's your head at" followed by black eyed peas mashup every weekend and be told that this is awesome house music. Also, as far as I know, the Dennis/Tygon, trance/tech component has not been replaced. Huge vacuum, let's try to fill it.

Anybody who wants to get involved (DJs), please feel free to PM me or email me (petition has my address). We already have several people previously involved with PR and who's names and faces will be familiar to you. The idea is not to have a closed group DJ-wise, rather to combine our efforts and essentially just GET CLUB SPACE. The best thing I remember about the PR was that it was one big happy place where there was little distinction between the people that attended and the DJs playing. Hopefully we can resurrect that.

Thanks,

People...some of them friends of mine...have been trying for 15 years to get a regular EDM crowd in KW and it hasn't worked yet....so I don't think it will ever work. It is and always will be a top 40 university crowd.

This very true there have been a bunch of places that tried and went under innercity, galaxy, the velvate lounge, the vault started out as a house club, frequancy, now 140 west has brought some acts in December Benny benassi was there and global djs. I remember the good days of underground after hours in kw were after purple room we drove into the middle of the industrial zone and one of the factories had a club inside it

just because people sign a petition does not mean they will be supporting every event (which is what those venues need to survive).

the back room at elements use to be just EDM and you would have a small crowd of regulars in there every saturday night. You would then have some people from the main room...which was top 40 music...come in and dance for a few tracks. It was usually some women that would come in there and then a group of guys follow them in and chase the women out. It got to the point where they just shut the room down because it just didn't make sense to keep a room open for like 20 people.

exactly...for any club in KW to have a successful ongoing EDM event it needs a few things

1. Small Intimate club - 300 to 500 capacity
2. Two to three hundred regulars
3. International DJs on a regular basis....local DJs will not keep the place going.
