In all my time on TA this thread has been more than an eye opener. For once I almost see what Orfanbitch is saying too. Almost.

Back to the point I hear everyone of you loud and clear. Samples are going and I'm going to limit myself to 5 sample packs for now and see how it goes. I just updated to FL 10 too so it was a good time to start fresh.

As far as vsts though that is something I'm still working on. I still haven't found a preset "blueman bass" yet so I'm thinking if I just download a few more cracks its inevitable at some point I will find that . lol.

Listening to music from you guys is very refresh also. Both ky and butler, I love both those tracks. But butler your point stands out pretty well along with what you submitted. That sounds ing great, I really like the beat. I am focusing way too ing much on individual elements for once I think that has settled in. I can not seperate the music out and just focus on that. So I think if I can not full dedicate myself now to my music I will just start deleting more and more untill that happens.

Its obviously some type of sick obsession. I almost feel like I miss making music too in a weird way, so at some point its obvious something went gravely off tracks in this process. Cause I "make music" everyday... but I really don't. And that lies the most important problem I think like all of you already said.

there is your problem. What are you trying to get the perfect blumen bass. It has been done. Make a Robby bass. It might be influenced by that guy but really. And honestly, he is an alphazone knock off. if you are going to rip, at least get it from the source.

I don't get his appeal. He took trance from 2003, added strings and whale sounds and voila. I mean even in terms of gay melodies, dj Passion has him beat there.

I've had your same problem before. Like every said, I cleaned my up and got organized. Once I realized that many sounds weren't too far from tweaking the init settings, I started making a lot of my own sounds. Presets are made to sound good by themselves and are often too complex to fit in any type of song besides demos. Going back to hardware also help me finish songs a lot quicker.

You know I've actually been making and finishing songs with just a sequencer, a 909, 808, and an emulation of an Sh-101 and the most underrated synth out there: synth1.

they mostly suck but i built momentum and have a few songs that i actually ended up liking. All because I went quantity over quality.

You really want to get ideas down, finish them as fast as you can too. Let serendipity take over too.

Getting rid of perfectionist mentality helps too.

100% of my songs are made through just grinding it out + serendipity, but mostly it's just grinding it out. For me, making songs is much like hunting for treasure, and you don't know where the treasure is. I just keep digging and sweating until I find it.

Yeh I rock!

Not.

This is what I did today need to equal my his and get a fat sub in there and it will sound a lot warmer I think.

The drums are a joke its just a vengeance loop going over and over I did that on purpose as I didn't have time to do any real drums sounds. I don't know wtf I'm doing but I do think its time to finish something. I will do a real drum line tommorow that actually fits the track and get some airry type of noise for some hissing in the background. Then I'll work out the musical side and add some type of progression and fix the melody.

I really do want to finish something that is my goal this week just to finish anything.

man I can't believe you havn't given up yet Robby. A+ for effort I suppose.

You know the other thing everyone always says, apart from choosing the right sounds (which is 100% true, and if you havn't developed the ear to know what sound is 'right' and what isn't by now....) is that simple is usually better. As everyone said, get rid of all those (no doubt god-aweful) stolen samples, get one or two awesome packs (Wave Alchemy pack is ing outstanding) and get back to bassics. experiment. Stop trying to make your favourite tracks. You're not going to be able to, and even if you could make a mimic it still wouldn't be as good anyway so what's the point?

You know the reason you can't find the preset your looking for too by the way? Because blueman doesn't use a ing preset. man, have some originality.

I really like the sounds comming in around 1 minute in. Nothing wrong with this work mate, now finish it, that's an order - put any self doubt in a little jail until this is done.

Remember levelling is your freind - mixing is much about thought to the level of each sound - often we push too many sounds too loudly. You may find you keep adjusting levels each day until it suddenly comes together. Often I find an overly loud offending sound in the bass or somewhere that my brain had somehow not noticed for a while.

My own view is to make sure percs are as good as they can be, yes even for trancers, they ARE as important as the melodies, they are the foundation of the house.

I notice you have Wave Alchemy samples there - use em Man - layer say 3 open hatz for example but don't have them play the same volume every time - relative to one another.

A+ advice. You learn so much more and at faster rate when youre prolific. the perfectionalist mentality hit me for a qite a while (a few years) and i could never get anything done. Nowadays I just load up ableton, kind of have an idea for the type of audience i want to reach with the track and throw ideas together with no real "sound" in mind. most people have a certain sound their tryign to sound like and if they dont reach it they give up or get frustrated, but ridding your mind of that and jsut going with the flow gets rid of that ceativity block because then now you're not looking for that certain sound you have in your head (because lets be real, its most likely not gonna happen exactley how you have it in your head). You would have less trouble coming up a few good tracks freelancing it in the time you try to emulate something you hear in your head, as well as be more original sounding in your tracks.

[Its really all about ideas.] you can polish later but ideas come and go, capture as many of them as you can. whether its a good idea or bad idea, just get them out! worst that can happen is that you'll have a bad idea (an idea that doesnt work) however, when you think about it, having a bad idea is not bad at all because it can be crafted into a good idea OR spawn other good ideas OR BOTH!! (story of my life)

deadmau5 even jsut released Aural Psynapse which was put on www.sectionz.com back in 2002 (and everyone thinks its new LOL). alot of his tunes are just rehashed ideas he did years ago back when he used to mass produce short 2-4 min tracks that were just ideas. but now he has an arsenal of tracks like Aural Psynapse just ready to be finished and put out there.

when it comes to ideas go quantity over quality, always. an idea may only come ONCE in your life, and that idea could change dance music or at the least give you your very own style and finess. dont fear being different, embrace it.

my 2cents

More A+ advice. I'd say most of my best ideas came as a result of just blind experimenting with random sounds. You need to give yourself the opportunity to surprise yourself as much as you can, and the easiest way to do that is to go into your DAW without any expectations or strict goals. Especially if you'll wind up disappointed if you don't reach them.

That's probably bad advice if you know exactly what you're doing, down to every detail, but I have to assume most people here (and in general) don't have that luxury. Myself included. But this method's worked for me so far.

I think he's just trying to figure out the tricks Blueman uses to have such driving midbasses, I don't think he's trying to replicate them completely. Even if he is it's most likely for reference than to recreate the sound in his own tracks. Nothing wrong with that.
