play video games and you're a nerdy, overweight virgin
spend tens of thousands of dollars on audio equipment, use it while spending hours at a time in front of a screen, alone, and you're the epitome of cool who s concentrated awesomeness. like, fonzie crossed with the most interesting man in the world |
One is a career that pays bikes ,the other is mind numbing games meant for kids. The only acceptable games are ones based in WWII and only if you are on the German team and you are a sniper. I didn't make the rules dude. |

I could use this argument to bash virtually every form of entertainment out there. sports, reading, watching movies, music production..
it's weird, though, I never would have guessed you're the kind of person to go off on a tangent about a topic you clearly know nothing about. |
No you couln't use it to bash anything else, and I'll get in to why in a moment.
However, it's any oxymoron to suggest I should not go on about a subject, you assume I know nothing about....for the simple fact you have no idea how much i know about computer games;
I started programming my own games at age 7 on an Atari 400, which I think is probably a good few years before you were even born. I had addiction level commitment to computer and arcade games, to the point I clocked every game I ever played.
That was until I was about 15 when I suddenly realised it's a completely meaningless and fruitless endenvour, which helps you little to nothing in real life.
Don't get me wrong, play away for fun/entertainment, but those that think computer games enhance their abilities in real life (maybe apart from how to stack boxes) are delusional, except in the case of very specific logic games (and no, halo & CIV are not those).
The reason is that nearly all computer games are to be played within a very specific set of rules, all with specific ways for you to beat them. It's not like playing games in real life where the potential variables are unlimited and interaction of others can have any outcome, not to mention they rely on your personal makeup, from your genetics, to your training, to your eating behavior, to how much booze you had the night before, to some random lucky moment of combinatory luck and thermodynamics that let you chuck a ball in a certain way that you'll never repeat. Games try to simulate that sort of thing but it's simply not the same, and doing it a million times in a game will only result in some very well toned thumbs and a nice pale skin color.
You may learn a bit of history from a game, or even get a bit of creative inspiration, but going to a library or sparking up a conversation with someone smarter that you for an hour will do 1000 times that.
Also, I don't know what forums you're visiting but for all TA's faults, it's the one place where there's actually decent discussion from some very talented, experience and helpful people. You think the "regulars" are e-pissing here? Try gearslutz or KVR then get real.
The regulars here actually know what they'er talking about and more often than not, are humble enough to admit when they don't know about a particular subject. |

ok so all this talk about games, I googled WW2 shooters, and came across this thing called something like SPECIAL OPS modern warfare. So is there something like this but WW2 based for OSX ?
We had this idea of setting up a few computers where we can spend some down time shooting at people. I would like to play as the germans tho. The M1 was a turd. Like a game where I can walk around, punch civilians, jump in a panzer, throw some potato mashers at allies or french people or cows whatever.
We are trying to get like a league of audio people, composers, audio engineers , private like server and just ing have at it.
does that exist ? |

Actually, there was a thing like that a while ago. I'm not sure how many people use it now but it was popular a few years ago and it's basically a portal for people to play a selected game together from groups of chosen people:

RANN said people that play video games are nerds. You are nerds. deal with it. While i be hanging out with a possee of black guys that can probably rap and play basket ball very well forcing myself on white bitches sporting coke mustaches, you are playing with a bunch of overweight virgins. Half of you just masterbated in the last half hour probably with still soiled hands not having shaved or bathed in a day or two. Mean while, I am herman caining a group of mexican minors. And 1 of them is a boy. Because my is so ing cool it doesn't even matter. |
this guy :stongue: TA prod studio wasnt the same without you looney |

Yes. At least for a few minutes before I realised they are just another slick looking variation on an old theme.
And I actually worked on the music for two of the bigger game titles mentioned in this thread. |
