On a different topic: DO you guys have those tacky Russian restaurants where you live? You know, the ones for people who haven't managed to assimilate into local society so they go there, get pissed, listen to CHEESY Russian pop and eat a lot of average food? Yet for some reason some relative or family friend always insists on having their birthdays there. I despise those places :nervous:
If I have to hear "Ya shokoladniy zayets" one more time I'm gonna kill someone. |

Классика :toothless
Yeah, we have one like that in Orlando. I'd rather go to a different place. Most of the patrons are lonely immigrants who complain about everything. Also, they seem to be eager to know every single private part of someone's life. This type of interest is directed to people who lived here long enough and somewhat assimilated into the society. |

sounds like a classic example of my mom /sister
and don't forget those legendary russian babushki who reside in every single house and sit on a bench all day long, looking at passerbys and gossiping about everything in the world :) |

OMG, brings the good ole memories. On every single bench at every single entrance to every single apartment building or house.
It almost seemed that they had nothing else better to do, but to sit on those benches and gossip, gossip, gossip.
Thanks whiskers for reminding to me the good times. |

:p
but see, the funny part was that sometimes they yelled at the other benches at other entrances :p
and i was sneaky, everytime i passed i said good morning and good evening cuz i was polite and they always praised me... but geez, they like knew EVERYTHING about everyone who lived in the apartments... man, i kinda miss the square placement of those standard '5-floorers' around dvori, i don't think there's even a word in english to convey the meaning of "dvor" :D

how about lots of trees and lots of puddles that never seemed to go away? :) |

Lol, those pics are so familiar to me. And yeah, "five floorers", most popular type of an apartment building. I guess you could call "dvor" as "yard" in English.
Sometimes I would eavesdrop on their conversation from my flat (or apartment of you will). Indeed, they would know a incredible amount of info about anyone, including far relatives of those people and stories associated with them.
And yeah, everytime you pass them, they would try dissect you with their eyes.
Good times, lol. |
