HHmmmm okay fine...so let's say Tiesto is not popular and he sucks...who would YOU pick to play during the opening ceremonies for the olympic games then and why?

So then you basically admit it - you're basing your measure of popularity on commercialism. Hey, did it ever occur to you that maybe these other DJs just didn't want to do a ty degrading concert in front of 25,000 people or play at the olympics?

ty, Degrading concert  And this is based on what, Observation of 25,000 people who were at the concert ??

I honestly, can't imagine a DJ not taking the opportunity to play at such a gig. Why ? Because it's an honour!

Do you honestly think that they just asked Tiesto to do it out of the blue, or are you open to the *slight* possibility that his PR machine had something to do with it?

Hire Tiesto's PR team and let them convince the Olympic Commitee to let YOU play at an Olympic Event. Good luck :D

Okay in a recent interview that i've listened to Tiesto explained how they came up with the TIC idea...at a number of major festivals that Tiesto was performing they were randomly asking the people walking in who is the DJ they are most interested in seeing tonight...most people said Tiesto...So, they decided to make a show JUST with Tiesto for the whole night...and it was a huge success, how can you argue with a sold out even of 25,000 people? Not to mention your face on a can of coke?

When I was in Amsterdam for Innercity 2003 it took me 30 minutes to walk through the masses and to get somewhat close to the stage before Tiesto came on...The place wasn't packed like that for ANY OTHER DJ and trust me there were many headliners there.

While I still don't think CD/DVD sales or one single large concert are a true indicator of an artist's popularity, what you just said is A LOT easier to swallow than what you previously said (i.e. that NO other DJ has EVER achieved Tiesto's level of popularity).

Don't forget that a lot of mainstream dance and hip hop artists are also technically DJs and have carried quite a bit of popularity. And for the love of god, Fatboy Slim IS A DJ!!!

And - yes, I do think it was a degrading concert - the shows and the setup and the flow made no sense. He hardly even did any mixing, it was just pure pandering to the fans and the fans worshipping him, it honestly looked EXACTLY like a rock concert with the minor difference that he didn't play an actual instrument. Like I said, I could never put it quite as succinctly as Ishkur, but to me it epitomizes everything that made pop music the "evil entity" it is today - emphasis entirely on the rock star and no longer on the music or the party.

As I have said and will continue to say, if the only thing you value is being able to sell out a concert then you're no better than a pop star.

And ffs, enough with the coke can already - they only did that because it was a massive event, not to celebrate Tiesto's legacy on the dance music world. They made FIVE cans:

Yes you are right for 11 hours or so Tiesto did not mix at all...NO MIXING!!!! :whip:

Yes pop music is EVIL!!!

*EDIT*

You still didn't tell us who should be opening the Olympic games and why by the way...

So are Boy George and Tommy Lee

Are they popular because they are DJs ?

Honestly, stop pulling out of your ass

Have you been at the concert that you talk like this ?? Even if you don't like the DVD, it's only 3 hours long and DOES NOT reflect the vibe and how people felt like in there !

Wait wait wait...let me get what you are saying right...

Tiesto's concert is a sellout and embarrassment...but Fat Boy Slim's Praise You video + all the other he's made...are super achievements???
