| why do they allow those old white haired and hairless geezers bore us to death with mundane and deprressing commentary ? I freaking hate communist cbc. Do they really think they are smart and funny with their "insight" into conflict in Venezuela instead of simply shutting up and enjoying the show. Oh and special thank you for nothing for cutting to commercial when serbian team came on :whip:  |

a. hes playing for over a billion people in what would be the hilight of any musicians career, dont you think he SHOULD prepare a little for it. I couldnt imagine the olympic games allowing anyone to go there and play without rehearsing EXACTLY whats going to happen.
b. Its a show not a rave.. nobody's dancing and there is no need to work any crowd. There's absolutely no reason he would need to change his records throughout the set.. so why wouldnt he prepare a tracklist?
c. he played his own music and prepared for it.. theres no shame in that and its what any dj would have done in his shoes |

For 6 years Tiesto was a little resident in a small club in his home town.
Then for 3 years he was probably the #1 DJ in the world(i'm talking about 1998-2000 years here), yet nobody gave a .
I think now, he deserves what he's getting.
Richard, no offence, but you talk like this when you have a resume like Tiesto's.. so please SHUT UP :D Thank you ! |
i agree with you man, 1000%...:toocool: |

A nice personal note from Tiesto about his performance at the Opening Ceremonies

Tiësto - 2004-08-21
When Athoc (Athens Olympic Committee) asked me in October 2003 to play at the opening ceremony, I couldn’t believe it. I thought somebody was trying to fool me. When George and Maria (musical directors) came over to Holland and convinced me it was really true, I became really excited. I knew right away this would be a historical night for me, dance music and for the Olympics of course!
To set things straight, there was no budget for a DJ fee but hey, did I care? I was so honored and thrilled by the idea that I could play my music for 15.000 athletes, 70.000 people in the stadiums, hundreds of presidents from all over the world and over 4 billion people at home, that I didn’t have to think twice.
I flew to Athens in January 2004 to have a creative meeting with the people from Athoc. The reason why they asked me was because they saw the DVD “Tiësto in Concert” and liked the opening tune “Adagio for strings” a lot. They wanted me to write a few tracks which would fit the Olympic spirit and combine the classical with the modern age. I couldn’t use vocals because that could be wrongly interpretated by some countries. The last request they had was that I could only play my own produced music. It was so difficult for me to keep this big secret quiet because I wasn’t allowed to tell it to anyone.
When I was there in January there was still a lot of work to be done and no one could believe the Greeks would have finished everything in time. Everybody was very sceptic. But when I came back in August, one week before the big day, Athens was completely transformed into a warm well organized city and everywhere I looked I saw something that had something to do with the Olympics.
It was great to see that such a chaotic city as Athens, and also to see the Greek people who can be very chaotic as well, can be so well organized and prepared! Every thing went so smooth. All the equipment I asked for was there, double. And they also stuffed a big DJ booth with double equipment in my hotel room. I had two stage managers, a sound engineer and at least 10 big guys pushing the DJ booth forward up to the Olympic flame.
The first rehearsal was on Saturday 7th august for an empty stadium. That was pretty boring, the only excitement I had that night was when I walked into the stadium the first time. I can imagine that if you are an athlete, and you have trained for four years to get here you must have an amazing feeling when you walk into the stadium the first time.
The second rehearsal was on Sunday 8th august with 35.000 volunteers in the stadium who all helped to make these Olympics happen. At that night I already felt the excitement in the stadium when I was playing. A lot of people recognized tracks like “Traffic” and “Adagio” and there was a great atmosphere.
The last rehearsal with almost 60000 people in the stadium was on Tuesday the 10th of august. That night I noticed a lot of mistakes, my mixer broke down, the monitors dropped out a couple of times and also the music in the stadium wasn’t continuously on the right volume. Everybody was still very happy though because all the things that went wrong were hardly noticeable for the audience and would be solved for the big show on Friday.
Then the big day arrived, Friday the 13th, normally not a lucky day for people who believe in that but for me it was. You can rehearse as much as you like but when the real thing is on, it’s a totally different vibe. I wasn’t really nervous but had some tension in my body. I was more really excited. When I went on, I was so impressed by the whole vibe of the stadium and by everything that happened around me that I almost forgot to mix the second track in! It was amazing to see all those countries with athletes passing my booth. For me it was like a trip around the world in one night. Every country that passed me and where I’ve been brought back great memories. The athletes were waving, dancing, shooting pictures and filming so I had quit an interaction with them which made it easier for me to play. It was great to see how the athletes of my home country just invaded the DJ booth and had to be pushed away by security because all the other athletes couldn’t pass anymore! What a party, what an experience! The audience in the stadium got more and more used to the music and after an hour in my set lots of people were dancing. I even saw some prime ministers clapping there hands! It sounded great on television as well, as I heard from lots of people around the world.
For me, to be there playing right under the Olympic flame, uniting the world with my music, is an experience I will never forget.
Love,
Tiësto |
