Airbase, I have seen you on DC++ in ES before.. back in the day:p
Dont you, HAVE to share music, ahem, MP3s on something like that? :eyespop:  Other than that I do completely agree with your posts, and I thought you made it all very clear by putting it in this perspective:

Yes I am on there from time to time. But if you've read my argumentation, Im not saying the filesharing is a bad thing, actually quite the opposite. For me its a great way to get to know new music. The music I like I buy. And thats the core of my whole argumentation, that you could download as much as you want, but once you find good music, please support it by buying it. |

Is there any chance someone could answer my query from the previous page?
I wonder how many venues, not the top line club that Sasha plays at when he tours the world, have cd decks?
I buy vinyl because in my search for some gigs to have some fun in playing to people I find that a set of technics is pretty much 'it' in the way of equipment, and its no point having a library of music on cd if you can't play it live.
Its okay for the bedroom Djs, and Djs in the top100, but for a aussie battler that is looking to play here and there and land a regular gig, vinyl is an absolute must. Its no point in my mind having a wank and banging the benefits of cds unless the change is pushed by the establishments themselves. |

| I think most big clubs and smaller clubs too are equiped with some form of cd decks. And even if they aren't, the DJ can bring his or her cd decks to the gig with them and hook them up to the sound system. If a club likes what you spin, and you only spin with cd's and they don't have cd decks, then I'm sure they wouldn't mind paying you a little extra to cover insurance costs or whatever for bringing your own decks. |

Thats probably a really good point, and one that will influence my decision in which cd decks I will buy at the end of this month, as the advantages of buying music online are starting to make me realise that the sexiness of vinyl is being thoroughly outweighed by ability of someone to have access to music that you won't get by simply visiting our couple of record stores. |

I've got both...I got my decks 8 years ago and still love them religiously...but I added CDJ's this past year because it's the new median out there now.
My decks were less expensive, but the vynil cost more. My CDJ's were expensive, but the CD's cost less. In the end it's probably a wash for the DJ. As for the label, it costs tenfold to output vynil. For the cost of only 100-200 copies of a record, I'm guessing they could manufacture upwards of a couple thousand CD's...
It's probably a smart move for labels to have the ability to manufacture both. As known, after the initial white labels (CD or Vynil) are released to big DJ's...tracks that become massive at the clubs and become heavily requested could determine how many, and what amount of discs need to be produced. If it's popular for the club folks...make a bunch of records...if it's a hit for the general public, make cd's....Properly making a mix of both would make it most profitable for the label.
Like said before, the psy folks pretty much had CD's available the past several years....and with my piss poor memory, I can remember, and think, that Positiva was one of the first labels to distribute most of it's big tunes on both CD and Vinyl...in fact I have copies of several songs from back in the 90's from them on both CD and wax.
For now, I try and get the tracks I enjoy the most on vynil if possible (we know there are sometimes very few copies and go out of stock fast), and try and save a couple bucks on other tunes if available on CD.
And to discuss what most clubs have these days...I've yet to go to a place that caters to over 100 people that doesn't have both 1200's and CDJ-1000's (or similar). |

So its ok to download ' not good' music... despite the fact that the artist are still getting nothing from it... but if music is 'good' music and must be payed for... :stongue: :stongue:
So quality= must be payed for
Less quality= Not worth paying for
Forgetting of course that 'good' is a 100% subjective term.
Thats a ed up argument on so many levels- :clown: :stongue: |

I have been a professional dj for some years
Cd players have been common place for years now.
Normally a twin denon cd unit- but increasingly pioneers cdjs or the pioneer cxm 3000 (twin rackmount cdj1000) .
So they are common yes-but then so are technics.
The tools are at your disposal- its what you do with them that counts. |

No it isnt, it actually makes perfect sense.
You wouldnt buy a record you dont like, would you? Exactly.
Those who likes it, they buy it. Artists dont expect people that dont like the releases to buy them. Thats what mp3s should be for as I said, for pre listen. If you download something and you dont like it, then dont buy it, thats the whole idea. And whats good and whats not, thats ofcourse totally up to you! |
