Time to give up vinyl for CD! (pg. 4)

also, last month anjunabeats have backlogged EVERY anjuna release and put it out on CD now complete with sleeve etc :) go anjuna!
the cd revolution would of happend in the late 90's because everythign EDm wise came out on CD then, but the CD DJing technology was there at the time. now we have pioneer and technics making things more possible than ever, abilites that go beyond vinyl. it looks like the cd djing revolution is here and wil probably go hand in hand with digital file mixing such as mp3s etc.
people remember the topic is more about having legit CD releases, nto downloading mp3s and burning them. |

having said that, being a huge sasha fan i have no problem with the boundries of edm expanding... i am just strongly against saying "Time to give up vinyl for CD!"
if you want to use cd's be my guest but don't f'n tell me to do it. |

As I recall, cds sales in other genres have dropped dramatically over the past few years. So why would EDM cds sell enough to break even? That's a major risk you're taking, especially given the fact that digital download stores will continue to improve and become more accessible to the consumer. So the price of a cds would have to be extremely low to compete with these "cheap" downloads. |

its a nice idea about producing cds but not everyone is honest and supports the artist in this world. sad but very true.
one more thing i love vinyl.
its going to be a sad day when no ones uses vinyl and cds to mix.
i couldnt picture a dj just clicking a mouse all night. |

Bare in mind, I am not asking the production of vinyls to stop, I just find CDs to be the obvious media primary, and combine it with vinyls secondary. I mean, why do EDM have to be the only music genre on this 6 billion people globe to not be released on proper music media standard.

I wouldnt say so.
Cdj1000mk2 are almost double what a tech1200 costs, but if you want a table that will "function as well and are reliable as Technics 1200s" You only have to look as far as the pioneer cdj800, or the denon dns3000. Both of which are between 4-5 hundred dollars. |

I didnt think this until recenly but I can see Vinyl almost dying out in the future. CD players are getting really good these days and if you still like the tactility of vinyl you can use final scratch or Serato (as I do) The mixes I put out are 95% mp3 controlled through Serato and 5% Vinyl. I have even considered ripping all my Vinyl to mp3 and selling my collection, but with over 2000 12" its not really a possibility lol.
Are CD's nopt the Vinyl of the 21st Centry though? Who needs a CD when you've got mp3?
One thing I will say about paying for downloadable mp3's yet again the music industry try to rip us off! On Itunes its like £1 for a song wheras if you got the Cd or 12" you would get 4 tracks at least (even if they are just remixes) This is even though the record company have no distribution costs. If downloads were about 50p ($1) each I would buy more but to be honest I've spent 10 years buying high priced vinyl and CDs so I'm happy to use soulseek until the music industry redresses the balance a little. |

Pionneer - 1000MK2 (£ 698.67 each) (Dosnt play Mp3's)
or this:
NuMark CDX (£550 Each)
But im not sure.Any idea which would be best (Armin VB says "i only trust 1000MK2" btw)
CD/MP3 got to be the only way to go - how annoying is it when you cant find a vinyl you want?! |

if i rip my vinyls to serato/final scratch, i'll be playing them as wav. not mp3. i aint sellin out like that..lol |

If you would have posted this topic in the DJ section of TA, you would get a chain of flames without anyone reading your post.
Well, I decided to read it, and most of the points make absolute sense. Without the spread of MP3's, underground labels would be definitely out of business and mainstream labels would have a hard time promoting their songs and artists. I got into trance after downloading numerous MP3's. At first I was downloading the songs for not-so-legal sources, then I started to download them from pay-sites, then I started to attend gigs, thus contributing directly to the artists' and labels' cause. Now I am trance DJ, who buys ample amount of vinyl, and money spent supports labels and artists as well.
So, MP3's are such a bad thing? I truly do not think that the path, which I undertook, is unique or rare. In fact, it applies to a large amount of people. However, some individuals stop at the first stage and are worthless leeches indeed.
As for the main topic of Vinyl vs. CD-R, it is up to the DJ to decide what to spin on. However, in my honest opinion, if a DJ does not know how to spin on vinyl, he is not a DJ but nothing more than a human jukebox. The title of the topic definitely applies to listeners, but definitely not for DJ's. |

Who cares what a DJ spins on, in the first place? If s/he can throw down a great set, kudos to them. No need for you guys to get your feathers in a ruffle over yet another "to each his own" never-ending argument. :rolleyes: |
