Time to give up vinyl for CD! (pg. 6)

It’s all about the record player playing the record.
So if one day it finally did switch and records became obsolete, I guess I’d have to buy a laptop and vinyl scratch. But that would suck cause I enjoy my records. And I enjoy different songs being on different records.
I feel it today just as I did when I started Djing. It feels cool taking something from the past “the record player,” and still using it today but for a hold nothing reason.
I have pitch control CD players but I hardly use them compared to my tables.
Vinyl for life, cause for me it’s what it’s all about. |

Lets face it, you can play around with PC tools for eternity in your bedroom, but its never gonna be the same to sit down at a desk with a laptop in front of a large capacity crowd, and click a few things.
Vinly wont die out, not yet, not ever. Its a hobby, a cult, a religion, and the fans are behind it! |

As for the main topic of Vinyl vs. CD-R, it is up to the DJ to decide what to spin on. However, in my honest opinion, if a DJ does not know how to spin on vinyl, he is not a DJ but nothing more than a human jukebox. The title of the topic definitely applies to listeners, but definitely not for DJ's. |
Not true. It's still possible with CD decks to things like live re-edits, and tight mixes. You can make a very smart set with CD decks. Just because you aren't physically manipulating the record doesn't mean you stop being a DJ.
Also, my sig is just a reference to the track "Vinyl Addiction" by Mark Richardson & Phil Reynolds. |

As far as my opinion on this goes, it would be all the better if releases were more widely available on CD, but that should not lead to the disappearance of vinyl. I love the medium, and I can identify completely with what [N]ûk|êû[Z] said about the feeling it gives to some people. |
:) ive been collecting vinyl since 94 and been DJing for just as long, so yeah im very passionate about vinyl for the last 10 years ive worked with it, the turntables are my workbench and my 12's are my tools. I buy a CD if i want to lisen to 70 minutes worth of mixage. no smart comments here about how vinyls should for DJs and thats it, but im quite happy with how i regard vinyls to CDs.

WOW!
I agree with Airbase for once
I don't think personally that vinyl will die in the next five years. Certain deejays rather play vinyl than CDRs and I think the addiction to vinyl won't go away. Personally I like CDs more than records but I collect both.
Now I'm not sure if labels can really blame mp3's completely. Yes they have had an effect but nearly every single label was slow as heck in reacting to the market conditions, which in business will make or break you. Yes Mp3's hurt labels but labels were stupid to not completely do what they should have in 1998 and if they had, they would be raking in the dough. Labels were too slow to move to something that they should have seen and when the market conditions change, you must change before or right near the start. I blame the stupidity of the old skool people running the labels and the BIG 5 were given a chance to completely control mp3's in 1997 but they dismissed it and they are paying a heavy price for it. I view the current situation, a complex combination of the following 1.Mp3's 2.Internet Growth 3.Bad Marketing 4.Bad Business Decisions 5.External market factors. I don't think you can blame one thing and I don't think there is a one fix all solution to it. I think more producers should be doing what Airbase is doing and at least creating dialogue about it because most deejays view it as a taboo subject at times. |
