I'm usually a big fan of this kind of threads, but all I could've said has already been mentioned other than one thing:
Why is the most interesting edm works found in those Dance Dance Revolution and Pump it Up machines? I still want to see a DJ better than one of those lovely dancing arcades. :D |

I think I have already explained that. Please refer to the discussion where I bring up the MTV and radio example. I am not insulting anyone's intelligence. You fail to realize that most people do not read that pretty disclaimer of yours and take your guide seriously. So, just for the fun of it, since I have plenty of time before my next class, lemme answer each of your questions individually.
| quote: | | What the hell is wrong with the damn newbies? |
They take your guide seriously. I talked to many of them and they truly believe in what you say, since you seem to be way more experienced in EDM.
| quote: | | Are they mentally retarded? |
No they are not. Where did I imply that?
Some are, I guess. People from various ages like EDM.
Not necessarily.
| quote: | | Do they take everything at face value? |
Your guide looks pretty credible to them. You don't have to take everything at the face value to believe in what you wrote there.
| quote: | | Are they not capable of common sense? |
See above.
| quote: | | Is figuring something out all by themselves a herculian task or something? |
With somebody explaining it to them it is a heck lot easier.
| quote: | | Did I miss the memo from God explaining that all newbies are braindead morons who can't button themselves? |
Why would a God send you a memo? What are you, a messenger from heaven?
| quote: | | Have you spoken to each and every one of them personally to confirm this? |
No I haven't. However, I have a sample large enough to confirm this.
| quote: | | Where, exactly, are these legions of newbies that I'm corrupting? |
Lemme get my GPS.
| quote: | | Why do you not trust them? |
There is trust involved? Must be an important task.
| quote: | | Why do you insult their intelligence? |
Already answered, see the beginning of the reply.
As for the rest of your message:
| quote: |
People are perfectly capable of thinking for themselves, they don't need you (or me, or anyone else) to lead them by the hand through this. If they get the wrong idea through my guide.....I guess that's better than them getting the wrong idea through this site.
Honestly, if a few sound snippets and a paragraph of callous text is all that is needed to brainwash people's naive little souls, then we as a scene are in a lot of ing trouble. There are a lot worse things to worry about than some nut's whimsical observations on electronic music. |
You're correct here. However, as much as I hate to say this, you seem to undermine the importance of your guide. It is linked to various EDM websites with a link titled: "Guide to Electronic Music". Sounds pretty credible, isn't it? |

| There are no "newbies", in fact there are very few people if any who are swayed by Ishkur's guide. You have no proof to the contrary. |

No, your problem lies in the fact that you assume he's not talking about trance listeners across the world. |
I don't give a . I know what trance listeners around the world act like, and they don't act in the way that Ishkur dislikes. Ishkur may be talking about international trance listeners, but he's obviously misinformed if he thinks that's the general opinion of the scene. |

Last I heard Mickey Mouse and the crew bundled him into a white van and forced him to play at their theme park. |

3xx3r7: I imagine you must be one of those people who see someone doing something stupid and then you go out of your way to tell them why it is stupid, and then help them to prevent them from doing further stupid things in the future. Because you always know what's best for them.
Me? I don't care about stupid people doing stupid things. Educating them is a waste of time. That's why they're stupid, after all. I'd much rather throw a water balloon at them and go "now you're stupid and wet, head." |

That's because, to quote I-F, "The crowd is stupid." Trance listeners are alot of the time uneducated when it comes to EDM, yet they think "omg, this music must be the best ever!". They haven't listened to enough EDM to have a proper opinion of what they like and dislike. Whatever the "general opinion" is, doesn't matter anyway, because alot of the time the "general opinion" is ing retarded. Bush was voted president twice, remember?
And what's this about Ishkur affecting newbies. I really don't see him doing that. It's rather the, oh dear, "general opinion", and the simplicity and availability, yet underground-ness (in the US. In a lot of other places actually, but I won't get into that) that makes trance so APPEALING. People listen to their peers, you know (yet they want to have enough free will to not feel like complete losers, hence trance-listeners being stuck between two worlds).
It would actually be better if they listened to Ishkur. Oh well, 'em. |

Sigh. They don't think "OMG this is the bestest ever" because in many parts of the world they aren't stupid Internet geeks or ignorant fools. In Europe there is all sorts of EDM getting into the mainstream, so dance music is nothing new, and trance is just another genre, no more holy to anyone than the other genres. People here grow up on all sorts of EDM so it isn't the same as Americans discovering trance having had virtually zero previous exposure to similar styles of music. |

Actually, I'm just talking about trance obsessives in forums like this one. The general listeners of trance around the world are only casually interested in it, and aren't so caught up in the evangelism of it all, which makes them virtually immune to any form of speculative influence and bias. They don't think about trance 24 hours a day like you people do, and they quite simply can't be made to care about what people's opinions are on it (least of all mine).
Ironically, the people who are the most fearful of me giving others the wrong impression about trance seem to be the ones who know the least about it. |
