Messina became MOOOOOOOSE again today. That was a brilliant pitching performance by him today. Pavano, Moose, and Big Unit could really make a huge difference to getting this turned around.
At least I'm happy for a day. Brown goes tomorrow..... so I won't hold my breath. |

| im not holding my breath either, but damn it felt good to get that win today...not only because it stops this 4 game losing streak, but it's also gratifying in the manner that they won, with all the parts clicking cohesively... |

| yup, it's been a while since they've played a pair of good games back-to-back |

I didn't see the game, but I don't like that Mussina only got 3 strike outs in 9 innings. And he threw 131 pitches... I'd like to see another strong outing with more K's before I say he'll be straight for a while.
Now... of course I look like a homer here, but, besides the two homers, Pedro was ridiculous. Seems like he just made 2 bad pitches that happened to get hit hard and far. |

well you didnt seem him pitching...his fastball had a load of movement to it, so the As were the putting the bat on it, but they were either weak fly outs or groundballs to jeter... |

I still wouldn't get excited. 3 K's in 9 innings is weak. |

So... Mike Mussina is being compared to Greg Maddux now? :eyes: :thepirate
And last time I checked, Greg Maddux never averaged 3Ks per 9. |

my point is that a pitcher doesnt need to blow everyone away to be impressive...mussina owned the A's yesterday no matter what way you look at it...to say he wasnt impressive is not giving him the credit he deserves, which is definitely unfair... |

I never said he wasn't impressive. I didn't even see him pitch. Only saw the box score. But find me a super ridiculous robot pitcher who could only strike out 3 batters per 9 innings and he wouldn't be that ridiculous. Balls put in play are not always caught. They can go anywhere. |

Mussina was impressive! The A's reached second base only twice. If every hit is some weak ass ground out or measly pop up, it's because Mussina was hitting the corners. He never was a huge strikeout guy, and was always about having that super control. His fastball was 88-92 which was much better than 85 a couple of weeks ago.
Moose needs to be a #2 starter, not Jake Peavy mowing dudes down.
Kevin Brown had pitches that were smoked. Mussina had none of those.
1. The performance was brilliant
2. It provides HOPE that he's back (and us Yankee fans needs some hope)
3. I still need to see him do it again and again to consider him back |

| All I'm saying is that if he struck out 6 in 9, it wouldn't have been as bad. If players are making contact, balls are going to drop... and find holes. Especially with the Yanks defense. |
