one last thing peoples....
does it matter if i submit a mix in 2 parts?
since i can only get around 45 mins on audio tape, i'd have to submit two parts if i wanted to make the mix longer...
is that kosher? |

rec it to the computer or a minidisc
and if u still have not choice other then tape

So how often do we want to do one of these competitions guys. Every 6 months, every year?
I reakon each 6 months is good, a new album for each season of music, Summer and Winter, Spring and Autumn/Fall don't count.
Also we need a proper title for this comp. TrancEaddict mix comp. just doesn't cut it for me, something really inventive would be nice.
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |

| Does anybody else have space apart from R-Yeah, as I don't think he'll be able to host 10-15 mixes @ 160kbps, that's like what, at least 1 gig of music. |

I'll be listening to all your mixes while I work. |

looking at the tracklists put out by a lot of you guys, i recognize most of these tracks.. i dunno whether i should go for a deeper style which is more original... or just crank out mashups (i got a few up my sleeve) of mostly known tracks.. and not all from this year either
e.g. a couple GU classics, and a track from magik 6... but they mash *really well*
because i might lose points for track selection?!? even though the harmonic mixing (i hope) is pretty impressive..
or i could just go w/ *beatmatching* my own somewhat "original" style of tracks.. lesser-known songs.
some opinions?
cuz w/ the amount of cd/mp3 djs, the beatmatching will probably be pretty straightforward, to get high marks for mixing
1) maybe i should do something like all mashups? losing pts for original track selection maybe
2) or do my own thing, but with less inventive mixing..
suggestions pls, judges |

Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
d) overall judge impression and other areas
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
Mixes will then be given an overall percentage.

In my personal opinion, I think you can do wich ever style you prefer. If we wanted lots of popular, very know tracks, we would give a list of +/- 50 tracks the mixers can use. What's meant by this (according to me, and i know according to RavingLunatic) is that, If it makes get out of our chair, act crazy and makes us BEG for the weekend to come soon, then you've got yourself high point s for track selection/playing order ...
Beatmatching and transition harmonics are all technical stuuf you need to be able to, to call yourself a DJ, track selection is the very thing that makes ALL the DJ's different, and unique. Would you like it if PvD, Armin, ferry corsten, Tiesto, ... ALL played the same tracks, the same style, ...
Just, start your tables and have fun mixing, ... let us feel you're having a good time and not just putting on some tunes because 'you have to' ... get my point ? play yer own style and everything will come together ...

Yeah I agree with what cyrax said.
play good tracks, whatever you think is good, not neccesarily what you think I'd think is good.
I like ALL kinds of electronic music, from happy hardcore to ambient, drum and bass, house, hard house, etc.. so, i'm not narrowminded, I'm not going to give you bad marks if you spin stuff I've never heard, or stuff I've heard before. (but try to stay away from the really overplayed stuff)
Trance is my FAVORITE genre, I love it, and I listen to it a LOT.
This competition is limited to trance, so, just spin that. any kind of trance, hard, soft, dark, uplifiting, goa, tech, pounding, whatever.
so that covers track selection
your beatmatching has to be right on, if I hear any galloping I'll give you bad marks.
transitions need to go together, if you try to mix melodies and they don't work, I'll give you bad marks.
and finally, overall impression. make me get out of my chair and dance, and you'll get good marks! oh hey, one more little tip, I like mixes with a nice intro and outro, I hate when it'a just "boom - clap - boom - clap" at the beginning for 64 beats, that's boring.
that should do it.
I'm excited to hear these mixes guys. |

Well, in my set... I performed LIVE so I spinned while feeling the crowd so the 1st half of it is massive hard trance and by the end of it and the start of the 2nd part, i slowly moved to more jumpy, uplifting tunes... and ofcourse eneded with my fav tune Liquidation...
if you would have seen the people there dancing.. it was awesome!! |
