Mixing competition (pg. 4)

t0ast!
that sounds good to me too....

i guess i'll have to put in a little more practice to try to get rid of the overlapping bass.....i dunno...without the ability to control eq (bass especially) it sometimes sounds like the basslines from the two tracks cancel each other out and i hear no bass whatsoever...now, i know i can fix this by speeding one track up just a mite, so its not that bad....

now cyrax raises a good point here....stuff's gonna start getting real hectic for me as well very shortly, so over the holidays is the best time for me to put any real time into this mix...

i think the dates he suggests would be a good idea....even if +/- a few days....
boy_luke_y2k
just have a go with vtt toast, im pretty sure u can get that 4 free at cnet, if u can't ill send it 2 u
Kevin
I'm In!

So will we be playing these sets live over the net, or do i just need to run to my room real quick, throw down a set, and upload it?

If we are broadcasting live then i wont be able to compete. My PC is on the other side of the house.

Will there be a minimun length for the sets? Say, an hour or so?

I'll be spinning vinyl.

Kev
R-Yeah
closing dates are good
i'd say until 10 of dec the dj's
and jan 1 the mixes

you need to record your mixes in 160kbps of mp3 quality
and as i see it now we dont have lots of ppl who want to mix
but i am ready to let ppl upload their mixes to a special server
and then the judges will dl them. i will arrange this.
and as for scartching and stuff,,, this is not a RAP contest!
i think we should stick with the mixing !
thats it

come on ppl join this mixing competition show ppl what u got!

Cyrax
Kevin

Sets are to be recorded in MP3 and then uploaded to a server that R-Yeah will arrange this sort of stuff.

Closingdate for Dj's => 10-12-01 is good for me too, just made a suggestion there with the 01-12-01

I'd say => AT LEAST, it would have to sound near CD Quality i think.

an overview =>
Judges: Cyrax, Dj Dawn, RavingLunatic
Mixers: R-Yeah, Toast, Boy_luke_y2k, Kevin,patticus, (quddha=> in or out ???)

Anyways, i'd be willing to make a mix for this competition, with my expensive turntables and mixer :P and maybe VTT for any songs i don't have on vinyl that i would like to use.

I already said i was in. :P

well, I wasn't talking about beat juggling or doing real-time loops, but when I listen to Johan Gielen @ Trance Energy (02.17.01) he would get extra points for scratching. It suits his style of mixing and adds to the listening experience. In a DJ Rapture set I don't expect and WANT any scratching, but it would still get a high rating. See the point I was trying to make?
Apart from that the last list Boy Luke put together seems quite agreeable.
Looking forward to the first mix!

DITTO! d00d Gielen's set is crazy with the mixing skills! Not only is he a great mixer, but the scratching that he totally does impromptu works great.... and he maintained a long, fast scratch during Tecno Gekkos - Tribal Tec (club mix).... when he was mixing into the moon - blow the speakers (paul h. mix).... now THAT had to be hard, but better yet to come up with it on the fly and do it, good stuff.....

but again, i dont think it would be entirely fair - some of us have really crappy needles! hehehe, (i don't want the quarter to fall off my headshell either! LoL.....) :p

but hey, when someone is able to do it, why shouldn't he get points for that. Otherwise you could say "some of us don't have EQ" or "some of us have crappy crossfaders" so let's only look at the tracklist and imagine how the mix would be:clown:

PS: ABT, turn on AIM, dammit!!!

:) i don;t have eq either...now i could prolly hack together a couple of big manual eq's (i.e, eq boxes...one per channel) to get the desired effect, but thats gonna take time. i think i'll just give VTT a go. i tried it out a couple years ago, but never really liked it. i guess its time to try again :)

as for length, since i don't have another (readily available) computer to pipe my output to, i've had to resort to tape for my recordings (which messes up the quality). i can *try* to put together a spare PC with a soundcard to record mixes, but i've got no guarantees....

so, my question is, will you accept tape quality if i encode it at 320? (i.e. mixer -> tape -> back to PC)
