Kalac is a lot better than Mark Schwarzer, makes a lot less errors. Is especially good in the air...commands his box.

As for Bresciano? Cmon dude...he was the only one in the first half that linked up with dukes, could have had a couple goals in the first half to his name...Had the japanese running ragged. Bresciano is quality. You dont score 10 plus goals in serie A in a midfield role if you are no good ;)

IMO bresciano has under performed for the AU squad though, that be the case dude..

Coulda had a couple of goals being the affirmative word here.. this is a world class game, he needs to refine his kicking, I will credit that free kick he took which hit the side netting but besides that he's pants.

oh my god what a finish.

totally agree with paulie on wilkshire and emerton, although when emerton was switched to defence he started to play well. he should not be started in the midfield though, he holds the ball too long before passing.

mark viduka is an absolute gun some of those passes and deft touches were sublime, especially the touch that set up bresciano it was pity that shot missed because the build up to the shot was superb. he simply dominated upfront, viduka and kennedy both playing upfront for the win. although i think for australia to progress into the next round viduka needs to start scoring more goals. he has only scored 6 for australia and even though he creates plenty of chances and sets up others the front line striker in the team needs to score goals.

One last thing TIM CAHILL is a GOD!!!

great post teflon, viduka's back heel has created quite a few chances for australia!

was going to hit the fed square but both weather and the masses dictated that massive plasma at home was where it's at.

farking convincing win...after the several position changes and cahill being brought on, it seemed that Australia could do no wrong. I did feel though that Breciano was teh raging bull in the side who was capable of a lot more - but he can only do some much when people aren't sharing his vision of play.

Pump up for the next one....oh and the italy game was champagne also..quality play.

of course in an earlier post i also defamed trinidad & tobago for being useless which i am more than happy to recant after their display against the swedes :D

was just awesome to see australia's attacking game rewarded with some goals and a win. theres nothing i hate more than a side that dominates much of the game yet gets nothing for their efforts.

What I thought was lacking for the Aussies was that there was minimal aggression in the team: a lack of intensity in some parts. My example for this is fellas like Emerton: who in my opinion was ... instead of doing quick counters and just hasting the pace up a bit, he held the ball too long and then delivered... ing up the passage of play...

IMO the subs did the trick. Cahill was good because of his intensity (maybe being younger...) and Aloisi had a strong prescence like Viduka... Kewell was a little disappointing, but his shot which scraped the post, was exactly the thing I'm talking about that we missed initially, just that fierceness. Also like Aloisis freekick.

And also, I though Bresciano... though not uberly talented IMO, played his heart out with all that he had... and that's earned him some points in my book.
