ended up going to lygon st with a mate, lots of people from what i could see, a few flares straight after the mc said "flare free zone" hehe. the atmosphere wasn't the same as watching greece in the euro final, there was lots of noise before the match but not a lot of chanting during it. pretty dissapointed with the result, but at the end of the day happens and i think australia surpassed the expectations of many. it was funny seeing a big mob of pissed off aussies marching up swanston street haha. hopefully this is the beginning of something good :)

The referees have clearly not given us a fair go, because we are not a recognised footballing nation |
i don't really understand this thinking? the referee would deliberately not pay a free kick or penalty thinking "oh these people aren't proper football players, they don't get the free kick" :conf: |

its a subconcious thing. Many other examples of similar things in everyday life that you don't even realise you are doing. |

that was an excellent post jono4l and i agree with almost all of it. i would just like to point out that the aussies arent immune from diving. aloisi took a dive in that same match ;) but i certainly think fifa should have eradicated this already.

There was an article in the paper after the brazil game explaining the psychological games that euro teams play with the ref's via media comments. Before we played Holland one of their officials came out and said the Aussies were a rough and dirty team, just before we played Japan their coach came out and said basically the same thing, and again before we played brazil. Over in europe there are so many media outlets repeating these rediculous claims of us being dirty and rough day in day out. The article also mentioned that there was a study done on the decisions people make when under pressure to make a split second call. The group that was not subjected to the media hype responded quickly and pretty acurately. The group that they subjected to media hype was the scary thing. 90% of those decisions made by people subjected to media hype got their split second reactions wrong and in most cases the reason they failed to make the right decision was because they made the decision that the media had already established in their subconcious.
This is a tactic used by many coaches in soccer. Something that i believe to be yet another flawed and corrupt part of the sport. |

| ah well then. can't do much about it now, i doubt anything would really be done about it, it is pretty much an integral part of the game it would seem :p |

| Pk you are right, we are not totally innocent, however we are probably the most honest hard working team in the world from the games i have seen. The occasional dive is nothing in comparison to the numbers other teams do. Also notice that when an Aussie cops one on the shin they rarely waste time pretending its something serious. they get up and walk it off. |

ing bull is what all this is.
Ghana Vs Brazil.
Brazil 1 vs Ghana 0 10 mins in
Brazillian gets a break from the middle and is hell clear of any defenders charging at goal. The keeper comes out to meet him and slides accross the attackers path in the same way Neil did last night. The Brazillian trips over the keeper exactly the same way as the Italian did last night. Ref blows whistle. What does he do? Gives the brazillian a yellow card for taking a dive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then Brazils second goal comes from a player who was clearly off side. I am about to explode at the ed up nature of this game. I have enjoyed watching it and following it, I was even thinking of starting to follow the A-League this summer and also finding myself a team in the Premier League. Now I am starting to doubt its worth following at all except the Socceroos. There is just too many bull mistakes made by the refs and the sportsmanship is so pathetic.
AFL all the way. FOR SURE!!! |
