well atleast the ref was in screwing over both teams. that was no penalty but there was no way that mattarazzi should have been given straight red either.

to be fair i thought this ref was definitely a cut above most others in this tournament. on first watch i thought it was a penalty. not so sure after replay however. either way, socceroos played better and deserved to win :mad: |

Unlucky, however full credit to Italy for defending extremely well with one man down. Australia really need a stronger attack and better passing. We just couldn't capitalise on the numbers, and instead of attacking on many opportunities the ball was sent back allowing Italy to settle down.
Perhaps the game really highlighted how much value Harry could have added. Just one good shot was all that was required.
Viduka... meh.
The Cinderella story has ended. Good luck Italy in the next round.
I for one would have liked to see an AU - Ukraine/Swiss quarter final :) |

we played solid and for credit when its due, italy defended very well, but getting robbed like that in minute 93 is very :whip:

In fairness, I don't think it should have been a red card either so we were kinda lucky in that respect and I wasn't really expecting us to win before the game so I shouldn't get too angry, but it's still pretty hard to watch them get knocked out like that. Ah well, there's always four years from now... :(
EDIT: Oh yeah, and it just wouldn't be Australian football if we didn't get knocked out in the most heartbreaking of circumstances. |
