Long live the chosen ones:
Oakenfold
Sasha
Digweed
Warren
Experience matters and these guys show nothing but. |
If you enjoy living a second-hand life, go right ahead. |

Oh, but I have to. You see, your discordant ing mob has pushed free music and free partying away.
None.
I told you this already: I don't follow DJs. I don't have to. I follow music, and I go to parties, clubs and raves for myself. Not anyone elses sake.
Occasionally I'll give proper respect to people who do interesting things, like Z-Trip or Hawtin, and I'm always up for a good set or two and often venture out to see a bigname DJ for curiosity's sake (and if the price is right), but I'm not going to follow their every waking move like some harsh fanboy, nor do I justify spending a ridiculous sum of money to go see them play, nor do I credit any one DJ or Producer for "getting me into electronic music". That's silliness. *I* got me into electronic music. *ELECTRONIC MUSIC* got me into electronic music.
I'm talking about persistence of the self here. Don't rely on anyone else to provide your fun for you. You'll end up becoming either hopelessly dependent on them or viciously dissapointed every time.
I guess that's why this scene has such a grievous turnover rate. |
Not happy with that answer at all.. elaborate further what tune(s) are present in your winamp right now. Justify how you became the walking talking wikipedia of EDM. |

Wow, ignorance really IS bliss. I wish I could be like you. I really do. Things would be so much easier....

Right now I'm listening to James Holden's Balance 005.....more of a mild curiosity since I've heard so much hullabaloo over it from threads on here....can't help but see what all the commotion is about.
In all honesty, it's actually a pretty good mix. There's some slow spots (breakdowns) and cheesy parts (vocals), but all in all well done and well constructed. I'd give it 4 oakenfold heads out of five:

I wouldn't say it's the most excellentist awesomist mix ever, however. It might be worth another listen or two before I delete it. Very VERY few mixes have ever achieved permanent space on my hard drive. I think I have less than 10 that have passed the ultimate test of scrutiny. Psy-T's gargantuan 6-hour acid mix was a lot more fun.
I'm not the Wikipedia of EDM, and never claimed I was. (and wouldn't want to be, since Wikipedia is a trainwreck of inaccurate information). Wikipedia does annoyingly cite me in many of its nodes, though. |

I'd love to make a long post about why what Ishkur listens to is wrong. But quite frankly whats the point?
Which is exactly mine now.. why do you need to make this continuous display of "my playlist is better than yours" ??? |

Ishkur, to use your analogy of the 1812 overture is an interesting one. Classical listeners go to a concert usually to listen to the artist, NOT the music that's being played. I'd go to hear Vivaldi or Paganini over Corelli or Veracini, the same way I'd go to see Paul van Dyk over DJ whoever else. Therefore, to go to a gig to see a big name DJ is no more worse than going to see a concert for Mozart (arguably the greatest composer who ever lived).
It seems like you just love spewing poison about EDM. I don't think I've ever known someone so cynical, and it seems as if you never EVER have anything positive to say about the scene. What infuriates me more, is your blatant streak of elitism and you're egotisitical knowitallism
"z0mg, pre 45,000 BC was when djs were teh non commercial best0rz and tota11y rox0rz my sox then je5u5 tota11y ru1n3d teh scene it with 'h3aven' and trance has b33n cr4p ev4r since".
Stop hating on Oakie and trance and EDM general.
I listened to Bunkha and 'Southern Sun' today - never properly heard it before but absolutely loved it. Oakie reamins one of the greatest DJs ever, good or bad, he commands total respect still for what he has done, even if it was pre 15th century! |

What planet have you been living on :tongue2
I agree - Southern Sun is a great tune - slightly opverplayed in his sets but still a great tune non-the-less. |
