Hello All,
Well I would start my story with saying my biggest inspiration into the electronic dance industry was down to one man, his name was Oakie.
Every other week I travelled up to Nation in Liverpool, a drive that took two and a half hours to see what I can only describe as the greatest entertainment money can buy.
Mansun, Y-Traxx, Tilt, Robert Miles, Art Of Trance, Man With No Name, BT, Olive, Cj Bolland, BBE, LSG, Frefall, Agnelli & Nelson and the list goes on.....................
If I could go back anywhere, that would be top of the list.......
Oakenfold is GOD
In my eyes he is the reason I make buy sell TRANCE.........

Lucky! If i could go back in time, to any point in history, Oakey's residency at Cream would be it. I need to hear one of those classic sets. |

Prior to 1999 I listened to EDM somewhat. Then I got Oakenfold's 1999 EMs and fell in love with the music. I could listen to those mixes stone cold sober and in a few minutes I felt like I dropped the best pills I ever had and the only thing working on me was the music and the mood he was setting. It wasn't his technical mixing for sure, but the guy's track selection was second to none. Each track he played perfectly built on the mood he was working towards with his set. And when it was over you just kind of sat there like 'Damn that was insane'.
People who crap on him now are idiots. Who can be expected to maintain that type of form forever? That would be like crapping on Mark McGwire because he only hit 70 home runs once in his career. How many people do you think listen to EDM today because listening to Oakenfold got them into it? Oakenfold's run in 1999 was due to a lot of factors, it is a moment in time that wont be recreated by any DJ. Oakenfold himself couldn't recreate it today if he wanted to.
But like any pioneer of a sport, an art, or a musical form, he has made a contribution that will last forever. To say he sucks now and discount what he has done would be like saying that Elvis never really did anything for music because he was not at the top of his game at the end.
These classic Oakenfold sets, the 99 EM World Tour and his Goa stuff, have stood up to the test of time and are still great today. I don't have any other sets that old that I listen to on a regular basis. |

^ well said! oakie is a legend and anyone who fails to recognize that is either A) ignorant of the fact, or B) someone who thinks addimiting it after what hes become these days will hurt their "status"
even if you dont like him, you cant deny his impact. |

| Say what you want about Oakie, but his '99 Essential Mix from Gatecrasher @ Lotherton Hall is still the #1 set on my playlist. Granted he's nothing like what he was back then. |
