That was awesome.

Ishkur's right about nostalgia btw: if you lie back and imagine this Essential Mix is from 1999, it sounds a lot better.

P.s. i still don't really get why this thread is called "Why Oakey is hated now"...

let's rename it to why all old school DJ's are hated now jejejeje:stongue:

I can't read all 22(ack, 25 now?) pages, but my opinion of oakenfold is that at one time he demonstrated much more enthusiasm towards music, then at some point the focus shifted more towards maintaining a pop dj career. I saw him maybe a month ago, he played what people expected, everyone loved it. People go out to see him every weekend, he makes tons of money, doesn't give the critics a second thought. People who picture themselves as superior, who campaign for different sounds that are outside of oakey and the like's playlist bash the hell out of him, trying to make his fans feel bad and switch. To switch styles just because other people bash what you like is no reason to change. To surrender to petty insults shows a lack of character, if you genuinely like something you have to put up with the disrespect of those who do not like that thing. If you spend your whole life changing yourself around to conform to whatever isn't the target of abuse then you are a fiar weather fan, at some point you just have to learn to stand up for yourself and stop playing this vain little game.

Critique is fine, smear campaigns are dishonorable. To talk about music helps to increase enjoyment and contribnute to a greater understanding of ourselves, but to harass a person for their taste is rude. People who still like trance these days seem to have a thicker skin for it now though. There is nothing wrong with pop music if that is what you like, but if you really think about the aspects of pop music which you like you may find something that demonstrates those aspects in a much mroe pleasing way that is outside the realm of the immediately accesible.

To say that every innovator and creative breakthrough came from people acting as full of themselves as ishkur does is a bit much I think. There is a difference between striving for quality in your life and being an to everybody, to say that every innovator and revolutionary trolls the Internet like the biggest jerks on this site is rediculous.

Is this essential mix his performance at the Coachella Festival?

If not, has his Coachella performance been released?

No.

The chances of any recording being released, unless it was streamed on a radio station, are slim to nill.

Am I elitist?

If it's elitist to appreciate and champion productivity, integrity, professionalism, worth and value, then damn straight I'm elitist.

If it's elitist to expect the most out of people, to not suffer bull lightly, to promote and support quality worksmanship, to enjoy getting things done and to laud the people who can do things cleanly and perfectly with no problems, then I wish we had more of them around.

You want to call someone elitist like it's a derogatory insult, but truth be known being an elitist is a good thing. It means you request the best in yourself and the best in others. That you don't accept a shoddy effort, sloven inefficiency, or drab incompetence. That you fight the movement to water down your fun, and that you refuse to accept an existence that bores the living out of you.

The elitists of this world are the tent poles of progress, propping up achievement and pushing the arts, sciences, culture, music, and the human condition to forever best itself in all avenues of creativity. Without elitists, the tent falls, flattened into the ground of ridiculously tepid, safe, boring mediocrity. It's the elitists who express early desires for higher standards in every capacity of life. It's the elitists who put every interesting genre of music you've ever heard on the map, who've established every untouchable sports record, who write books that continue to sell long after the author is dead, who've put men on the moon, cars on the roads, and your computer in front of you. Without elitists, everything that's wrong and inane with life will run unchecked. Without elitists, we, as an interesting species, are truly ed.

Call me an elitist all you want, but if that's the case, let me honestly ask you: What's so wrong with being elitist?

If you don't like the DJ, don't go to see them. Geez, it's that simple. You getting worked up in this thread is hilarious to see, yet pathetic at the same time. Who cares if tons of people like the big name DJs. They pay the money, and they are satisfied with what they paid for. If not, then they don't go to see that DJ the next time. Not all people just want the music, they also want the experience. And hell, people like Oakenfold back in the day and Tiesto and Armin these days can make that experience awesome. It's not just the music for these guys, it's the show. Why else would people go to Sensation or other huge dance events? The experience is important for them.

Oakenfold got me hooked on trance. And before you shoot ur same old babble about him being the first sound I heard, he wasn't. I accidentally discovered trance in my early teens just by using Napster. I loved what I heard before with Robert Miles' Children and went to look for more. A listened to anything I could find back then, but certain DJs' live sets just did the trick and sounded way better than others'. Oakenfold was one of them, so was PVD and a couple others. You rag on the DJs big time, yet you know what? Each one of them got to the top by having talent. I personally go care about technicalities with it comes to hearing a liveset. Perfect transitions and whatnot don't have much importance to me. If the DJ spins what I want to hear, and puts on a great show without any major screwups, I will go back to see them again. And I'm sure many fans of trance are the same.

so basically, stfu, because few people care

I told you this already: I don't follow DJs. I don't have to. I follow music, and I go to parties, clubs and raves for myself.

He is a raver, be very careful.

sum hot ass tunes from the 35th min onwards

apart from the sex 'n' money track - which I didn't think belonged any where in this mix (and possibly the first track as well), this was an excellent mix which deserves a listen if you haven't already. As I mentioned before - even the Oakey haters may find parts of it enjoyable (even though they will never admit it :haha: )
