Who gives a about his mixing, it was never really good but the man knew how to pick tracks (be it white or rare ). He may never return to his old form but damn what a form that man had from 1997-2001. Find the Oakenfold-Tongy EM from Cream's 6th Birthday and then tell him, he was not that good. Still fooking kicks arse.

I mean Sasha was'nt that different, cept he could mix, he always had tracks that no one had.

Personally Oakenfold will always have a place in my heart, no matter what he does in the future. He was one of the people that got me into EDM music.

god damn his long hairs workin....

anyways...i respect okenfold.

for sum reason he didnt introduce me to trance...so he was not that influential to me.

but i will not forget the performance he put up ....bastard showed his experience....when he ripped off armin van buurens show.... 40 % of the crowd left when armin played... too bad armins so dependent on ASOT tracks to deliver a live show.

so bottom line....okey might be dead...but when u go to see him live.. hel make sure ur satisfied... id recommending not dloading his livesets though... doesnt sound great when ur playin em in ur room.

im saying this because i didnt expect the dead okey to drop one bomb after the other.

oakey was amazing and his track selection got him there. I mean look at something like track 9 from em in china in 1999 never id'd and a brillant track. there are soo many unreleased sogns that oakenfold played and soo much great music that he added. too bad he's decided to go in another direction.

Oslo was his best GU imho

But his mixing has always been bad

Seriously

Listen to the GU cds, theres tons of bad mixing on there

back then it was more about the tunes then the technical bull

:)

I dont know what all of you are talking about,Oakey is a great mixer when he wants to be,he was one of the best to pick authentic tracks and play them at the perfect order, plus his sets had a spacific sound.

You cant judge him as a DJ based on his pre-99 sets, making a GOOD set was diffrent back then, its part of the ganere's evolution:)

And here's the mentality that's killing trance, at the very least. It's not so much thinking that old music sounds dated. Well, sure it does; styles change, the music is different. But then people go and say that's a reason it shouldn't be enjoyed. When a song has outlived its shelf-life, all of a sudden it isn't viable anymore. In a way, this makes people want less and less to play the song, further contributing to its "dated" sound, and starting a viscious cycle.

Sure, old sounds are "dated," but that has no bearing on how viable they are. These songs can still be played. If you don't believe me, go listen to Psy-T's acid mix in the DJ forum.

Totally agree with you on that. If the styles did not change, then people would complain that everything is repetitive and there is not creativity in the music anymore.

Styles change because a change is needed, new horizons are needed to be explored and the moment something clicks in - it becomes the new trend. Some people offer resistance to the change and thus start criticising and creeate negativity.

Paul Oakenfold did his job, he was among the best innovators of trance along with guys like Jam&Spoon, etc., these people created the new sounds during the 90's and created a head way for the biggies now...

For Oakie, he's been there, done that and now he has moved on...he does not want to produce trance anymore and thats his in choice...and he proudly admits it!
