one time i watched a show on the christian station PAX (if you know it)...and there was this dude giving a little sermon or something...
and seriously his argument was that other gods were false because they are lying...but our god is the real god because we're telling you the truth!
that's not an abbreviation...that's literally the justification he was giving hahaha :stongue: |

I know. When the bible was originally written in greek from arameaic, than the romans translated it into latin - the greek text was pretty much forgotten until, i forgot the persons name, came along and decided to translate the latin text back into greek, but only using the greek texts - and it was found that back that the people who had translated the greek into latin had added in alot of verses that werent originally there. The church criticized the first edition of the translated bible and the person who wrote it said that there wasnt sufficient documentation that some stuff was there, thus the church fabriated documents in greek to give the guy so that he could add it into the second edition of the translated version of the latin bible. Thus different interpretations and translating through out the years destroyed the bible and there is no way to know what is authentic to the bible. |

Science is pretty good these days. Saying that 600 years ago science was practically religion, doesnt mean that penicillin doesnt work and rocketry is based on guesses.
But, Like I said, this all has nothing to do with the ministry of Jesus. Its all what bored people argue for pretenses at being philosophers. Should have no bearing on issues of faith or the daily walk. |

You know, these religion debates and hating on teachings of the bible are so tired.
I understand hating on the people PREACHING these ideas, but to trash the ideas themselves is ludicrous. Nobody (aside from spiritual leaders) is telling anyone how to interpret the bible, or religion.
Humans seem to forget they have critical minds, capable of drawing their own conclusions and forming their own beliefs. So to dump all over these ideas that *can* be very valid is just as ignorant. |

It wasnt until 1992, that the church accepted that the Earth revolved around the sun. |

there is one thing we know though... for the last several hundred years the bible was used by it's "publishers" to control the masses. the divine right of monarchies, fighting and dying in crusades, submission to outrageous laws and taxation, it penetrated all aspects of life and even convinced people to gather by the thousands on battlefields to die for "divine" kings. no conflict of interest there! |

As far as I know the story of the woman who was considered guilty for adultery (in the Gospel of John), was added into the text of the bible when it was being translated from Greek to Latin... it is known for its famous quote...
"The man among you who has no sin - let him be the first to cast a stone at her." |
