true...but I think Sam's decision ends with the ball being in TJ's hands. i.e. I highly doubt he specifially called for Ford to shoot or even wanted that as the primary option...that's TJ's decision to drive, shoot or pass.

meh...I guess that's all speculation on my part :p

Calderon had the hotter hand tonight (nevermind shooting 53% vs. TJ's 44% on the season) and putting in Ford *right* at the end struck me as pointless.

oh well...here's hoping they can score home court advantage for the playoffs!

They should have left Calderon in for the end of the game, IMHO...he's bigger, better defensively and would have found a teammate instead of taking a crap shot.

Well, that's the problem. When you say 'THEY', who decided to bring in Ford in the last 40 secs of the game? Not Calderon. I just question some of his moves. There are plenty of nights when Calderon outplays Ford, WHY NOT just keep him through the end if he is playing waaaay better than Ford.

And comments about Ford being more consistent?! Calderon shooting the ball waaaay better, and has less turnovers too.. not to say that I dont like Ford all I'm saying is that they have to be coached right and the one that plays better on any given night should finish the game, because in my opinion they are both good.

Oh well, on the bright sight Luke Jackson played sick in his frist (real) game as a Raptor, wonder how he does down the road. And cant wait for playoffs baby! GO Raps Go!!! lol ONIONS!

Jackson!
that guy is awesome, if the raps fluked a win tonite it would have been because of this guy, nice passes, nice dunk, good effort overall. he wont be d-leauge for long.
MarkT
Jackson looked pretty good, didn't he?

this could be yet another shrewd move on the part of Colangelo...after all, Jackson was a lottery pick a few years ago. I really hope they invite him to camp next year...why the hell not, especially if MoPete is gone (and he will be)?

I found a funny quote, typical Sam, from Yahoo! Sports' 'rumours' section online, which in turn referenced a Toronto Sun article:

Raptors' Mitchell upset about Bobcats rumors
Tuesday, Apr 3, 2007 11:52 am EDT

Toronto Raptor' coach Sam Mitchell was less than enthused when asked about reports he would become the next coach for the Charlotte Bobcats.

"How quickly do you want me to walk out of here?" he said during a media conference. "Lombo (Raptors media relations director Jim LaBumbard) told me about it and showed me the paper it was written on, and I filed it right where it should go, in the thing that swings back and forth, that they pick up once a week on the side of the curb."

LOL...I love this guy.

I have two things on my "I will boycott the Raps if..." list. One is bringing Vince Carter back...two is not making a generous offer for Mitchell to come back after this year.
Porky
if the raptors can maintain 3rd spot, and the wizards can maintain 6th....than it should be a breeze for the raps to advance to round2 of the playoffs, esp with the injuries to both caron butler and gilbert arenas. without both stars, the wizards are a lottery college team

I agree. Detroit and Chicago would be our hardest opponents.

Definitely.

I'm one that thinks Sam Mitchell is a very good coach.
Anyone here who's nit-picking on a certain sub here, a bad play-call threre, must not understand.
Its not play-calling and one or 2 bad subs, its the way he gets the team to play.
The Raps hustle and play like a team. A LOT of NBA teams wish they could have both of these attributes.

Some of you are forgetting, the Raps WON the Atlantic division and are 3RD after NOT making the playoffs for how many yrs
K the division is , but c'mon, they're ing 3rd in the East!
You replace Mitchell, then whats the standard next yr??
Does the next coach HAVE TO win the East to keep his job???
According to these standards, he would have to....

The worst thing any franchise can do is go through musical chairs of coaches.
You need stability and continuity in everything from player personnel, style of play, coaching, ownership etc....

Again, SO many owners/GMs wish their teams hustled and played like a team EVERY game.
The Raps have that

More pro-Sam Mitchell
ESPN.com:

First, the Raptors added nine new players this season, including several from overseas. Yet Mitchell's gotten them to mesh together and play as a well-oiled machine. Since starting the season 13-19, the Raptors have gone 28-13.

Second, and in my opinion even more impressively, Mitchell has kept his team winning while his best players have been out with injuries. All four of the Raptors starters outside of Rasho Nesterovic have missed at least six games this season.

Surely some of you were not aware of this

Congrats to The RAps! They deserve it!

But they need to keep playing hard!

Right now they would be playing the Wizards which would be great since the Wizards have quite a few injuries right now and we could take them.

If we somehow make it 2nd then we'd possibly face the Nets..which would be one hell of a series!
MarkT
and a big "ha, YOU!" to all the media publications who had the Raps finishing at or near the bottom in the entire league.

n00bs.

they stunned even me...at the beginning of this thread, based upon their lineup, I predicted a 6th place finish in the conference.

I'm pleased to see myself proven wrong :D

Jose and TJ have been better than expected (this early in their careers), Bosh has taken it to another level and the depth on the team has allowed them to deal with various injuries.

So I guess it's not finalized...but Washington, without Arenas, is DONE...especially with Butler out too. I really hope we end up playing them first round.

we'll def coast into 2nd round w/o the Wizard's top 2 players

but doubtful that we'll get served the patsy nets for round2

w/o garbosa/bargnani (who were part of our 2k7 surge) it will be difficult

I don't think we'll end up playing the wizards since were only one game ahead of Miami and they have a MUCH easier schedule. Also they have the tiebreaker against us. Most likely scenario vs Bulls or Cavs and no home court.
