Good for you, bud. I don't think bad of fans who have a good time to their fav DJs.

It was a good set if you liked ASOT trance. I've gotten away from that long time ago. (My taste of trance runs around 03-05 euphoric style)

So began my second stop of my weekend of crazy partying.

Got in around 11pm. Thought that was when Blake Jarrell was to start but MO only had an hr slot (ok? what's the point?) Anyways, despite the technical problems, I thought he spun a pretty good prog set. But since he was 'warming' up for Armin, I guess he threw in few cheesy vocal tunes which I didn't enjoy. Would love to see him as a headliner or not warming up for armin when he can get down dirty and nasty. Good job Blake. 7/10

Armin... Well, this was my 4th time (I think) seeing Armin. Well, I guess he confirmed how much I got away from trance. If he's the poster boy for trance, I want nothing of it.
Ok. I admit it. I hate cheese vocal trance, but until around 3:30 when he played a lot harder, it was just random ASOT tracks w/ terrible programming. Well, the crowd loved it. I didn't. I really tried to keep an open mind and gave Armin a chance, but other than dropping Super Nature, he lost me completely. I checked out the Gallery and the Drink for a while just because I couldn't stand what he was playing. 3/10, only because the Jesus pose is so expertly done, and he does have a good stage presence.

Markus Schulz... WOW. WOW. WOW.
First time seeing him. Def. won't be the last time.
He started very, very slow and proggy. I think he did that on purpose so that only people who are serious about seeing Schulz would stick around. Actually, a lot of people did leave after Armin's set, leaving more room for others to dance.
Just a twisted mind the entire set. Generally, it had a bit of dark feel to it. Loved how he played a lot of variety of prog, fast and slow, also there was a 20 min bit when played a bunch of techy stuff (like Roland Klinkenberg - What's the Point) When it looked like he was losing the crowd, he drops a trancey vocal tune, still with a dark feel and the crowd goes back into it. Good stage presence, good programming and track selection.
Somehow, his encore tune, Air for Life is cheesy as , but it fit his set as a conclusion.
I talked to Markus at Fluid later, and he said that was the Markus Schulz afterhours special. If you guys have a chance to see him at a late/early morning, do so, if you like the dark proggy sound.
10/10

Random thoughts
-KH was perfect for the proggy sound that night.
-LOL@taking the guv green lasers and putting it in KH
-Whoever designed the lighting system needs to be shot, taken outside and beaten a few times with a stick. What idiot puts bright lights at eye level, blinding people each ing time? Annoying!
-When Nada goes on dancing spree, get the away from her! She's a machine :D
-Fahad, there were times when you were just entranced by Schulz's set that nothing can distrupt your thoughts.
-LOL@creative usage of the table and the cloth to hide TOTA properties. :p
-Is it me, or did the Asian sketch arrange it so that they gathered all at the same place?
-Whoever thought to open up the KH garage door for extra smoking space and people to chillout if got too hot, is a genius!
-Armada crew... You guys are nuts! Love it! (How come Lisa didn't get a shirt? Or does being a Ferry whore prevents one from being an Armin whore?) :p
-Shoving Asians. Whatever. Get used to it, or don't come to the Guv. That elbow pad with 6" spikes to elbow shovey people does sound enticing though. I agree that it's such a vibe killer.
-Speaking of vibes, admittly I wasn't into Armin's set, but people were having a good time. Best vibe I've seen in KH in a while.
-The Anthem is the gheyest trance tune ever. Worst Filo & Peri production ever. (and I don't think they suck)
-For you househeads, I think you guys would have enjoyed Schulz and Jarrell, if you guys like progressive
-Boy, do I love that rolling prog house bassline!
-Only one person recognized me by my purple shades and TA shirt. Pfffft. Don't be shy. I don't bite. Say hi if you see me! :p
-If the music isn't occupying your mind, at least check out the girls. Holy a lot of hot girls (and a lot wearing just a bikini top with nice boobs) Jamie, you would have approved.
-LMAO at the scene when some guy tried to get on one of those stages when the guv dancers were dancing. The guv dancer just threw him off into a bunch of crowd. Funniest thing I've seen at Guv

Overall: 8/10 (Only b/c Armin sucked so bad, otherwise would have been at least a 9
Tune of the Night: Stoneface & Terminal - Super Nature

I realy like your review, you truely summerised the way i felt about the music that night, specialy Schul'z set. It 2 bad that he doesnt always play like that because it was BAD ASS.

Anyone know of any sets, where Schulz plays a simular dark proggy style as he did in the koolhouse.... I need those basslines in my bedroom :eyespop:
lounger540
Check out the last Global DJ Broadcast from April 19th, and the BeOKEY sets. He grabbed some of the same mixes from those sets, which was sick because I was listening to those all week. Also the March 22nd Global DJ set has a real deep dark bass groove throughout most. Actually all the March sets minus maybe the 1st have more prog sound. He must really be feeling it lately.

These are all linked in the DL thread of course. If you're looking for any in particular let me know.

Note to self (and others who are in the same boat as me): Never work on a Monday if you go to party on Saturday, you will spend the whole day on TA and will not get any work done AT ALL!!

saturday was amazing
other then the massive amount of people stepping on my feet every couple seconds lol it was perfect.
jarrell shulz and armin were amazing <3
i know its been said but it was so rude when people were yelling out for armin during his set.
should of waited till he was done and no one was on stage, it must of been a really big night for him so he deserved more respect.

<3 nights like those really make me wish we would have more trance nights..hopefully soon :)
The Highroller
Being my first trance party in 3 years, I didn't know quite what to expect from Saturday night. I went to this party to see what was going on in the trance scene these days, and to see Marckus Schulz. Needless to say, I had a great time.

The music:

I arrived at the Kool Haus around 11pm to catch the end of Blake Jarrel's set. He did a good job opening until about midnight, when Armin was supposed to go on. He got a little boring at that point, and seemed to be having trouble keeping his set together while waiting for Armin.

When Armin finally arrived, the Kool Haus started getting pretty packed, especially around the front. It was at this point where I decided to take refuge closer toward the back to get away from the crazed Armin fans. Armin started off pretty slowly, so I decided to check out The Drink to say hi to some of my friends. The Vinyl Junkies were doing a great job up there, but holy were people ever wasted in that room. I had so many stumbling people fall into me. This one girl actually fell right into me, and then right on her ass. Real classy honey.

I went back down to the Kool Haus to give Armin another chance. I will admit that I got into it for about 30-45 minutes or so, but other than that, it just didn't do anything for me. Thinking it over, I can attribute this to two reasons. The first reason
is that I like music that I can dance to, and the music Armin was playing wasn't really dancey music at all. Not really my thing I guess.

The second reason is that I spent the first year or so of my party career going to trance parties (back in 2002/2003). Based on Armin's set on Saturday, it sounds way too much like the stuff I listened to years ago. Does this mean that trance music hasn't really evolved since then? It's hard to tell from one party I guess...

At one point during the night, based on a recommendation from slingshot, I decided to check out The Gallery for Heidi. Holy did I ever wish I got there earlier. She was killing it for the 30 or so minutes I was there. I really wish I knew that she played stuff like that before Saturday night. :(

When Marckus finally started, people started clearing out and there was more than enough space to dance. Within the first 3 tracks, I knew that finally for the first time that night, I'd be hearing some music that would finally catch my ear. He started off with some more mellow, proggy trance music and slowly got darker and more twisted as the morning went on. At points he was even playing tech house which made me really happy. During the last 30-45 minutes of his set or so though, he seemed to be just be dropping random tunes. One of those random tunes was Mindcirus though (one of my fav dance music tracks of all time), which was my first time hearing it in a club. So I guess it was ok. I can say that Marckus really impressed me, and that I'd definitely consider seeing him again if he headlined The Guv.

The crowd:

Wow was that ever entertaining. I saw so much random, sketchy and hilarious things on Saturday night. I don't know if most trance parties are like this, but wow what a zoo.

Sorry, but I just don't like this Armin whoring business. Crazed fans rushing the front of the stage to get Armin to sign their various Armin paraphernalia signed seemed kind of lame to me. Who cares? He's just a DJ, and you're just stroking his ego (which seemed to be well stroked based on his "I am God" antics behind the decks). DJ whoring is just something I'll never really get I guess. Yes I know that a fair number of my friends took part in this nonsense, and yes, you're lame too. :p

I had at least 5 random people come up to me and say, "I thought you were a househead. What are you doing at this party?" I had no idea who any of these people were, lol.

The vibe of the crowd was amazing to me though. There was a lot of energy in that room. It was awesome standing on the side bar and watching the crowd go off time and time again.

All in all, I had a great time going to a different party than what I'm used to. Most importantly, I had fun partying with some of my friends on their turf (ie trance parties). Dee and Nada, the smiles on both of your faces the whole night were pricless.

Yeah I guess, but this is coming from someone who only goes to Toronto 3-4 times a year, and I usually have Mondays off...HUGE adjustment for me. Will never work on a Monday again after going to Toronto for the weekend.
