Not gaming addiction. It's an addiction to a game not suitable for a child his age to play. It's rated Mature 17+, and not something you allow a child to play at 13 or 14 (paper said he played it for 2 yrs), without supervision at best.

It's really hard for kids to monitor exactly what they are doing. Its just the way society has evolved. It's very easy for a kid to hide something like that.

That's why its important to crackdown at the source. And they have been.

Forcing game retail outlets to ID for games that are rated M is a start, however there are too many different retail outlets out there to monitor that they are all properly ID.

I bought many M rates games when I was underage and was only IDed once I think. If they had a better system and maybe if they trained the employees to be a little more thorough in their verification process it could help, but only slightly.

Are you serious???

The kid runs away and is found dead and you think they are going to even consider charging his parents for allowing a 15 year old boy to play a game thats supposed to be restricted to people 17+????

"Hey there Mr. and Mrs. Crisp, we know we your son was just found dead in the woods, but I am sorry, both of you are going to have to suffer even more by spending the next few weeks in jail to pay for the crime of allowing your son to play inappropriate video games.'

I'm sure you meant parents... but in this case the parents were well aware of what he was playing.

At 14/15, I had an odd vision of the real world. I believed I was whoever I wanted to think I was. I thought I was invincible, that nothing will ever happen to me... until I got hit by a car while riding a bike. Unfortunately, you don't re-spawn in real life. We were all young teens once, and we all did some messed up , and had an unrealistic view of the world. No way we were mature then.

lol. most parents who let their kids play video games are in violation of esrb thing then. i mean, when did parents really stop their kids from playing M rated games?

Sadly my point... unfortunate that people don't see ratings on video games the same way porn, smoking and alcohol are seen.

Regardless of any age limits that are set, the fact is that the same age group is continuously being targeted by marketing campaigns. Microsoft is not run by idiots, they jumped at the opportunity to donate money.

Now if that age limit were actually enforced, I'm sure that the entire industry would suffer greatly. With the global influence that corporations like Microsoft and Sony have, it would be virtually impossible to pass such laws.
