Sounds like the real problem here, as usual, is rampant stupidity and an astounding lack of parental beat-downs. |
I couldn't have said it better myself, i would not dare run away thats freakin stupid 1) my mom would slap the sh*t out of me and 2) i know that my life at home is 1000 times better than it would be out on the streets...really i mean do kids not have any sense lash out any other way...break something ffs, runnung a way does you no good in the end.

Exactly. His parents should blame their own lack of parenting skills, not Xboxes. But of course today no one ever takes responsibility for their own kids - it's always someone else's fault, even if that someone else is an inanimate object. |
Word! So true. |

Didn't the parents try to take the xbox away when the kid ran off?
How are they at fault exactly?
By age 15 kids have a lot more influences than their parents can control. You can't blame parents for everything that goes wrong with a kid - a lot of the time it's just circumstance, and as a parent you can't possibly anticipate every potentially dangerous circumstance nor can you prevent such a circumstance from developing, short of locking the kid in the basement. |

The reason the kid ran away was because they took the xbox away from him. Even if the kid is 15 years old the parents still need to monitor how many hours he spends sitting infront of the television playing video games and it seems like they just let him play as much as he wanted all summer long.
I think the parents were right in taking the xbox away since the kid skipped school to play the game. Unfortunately, the parents waited too long to enforce a time limit to playing games.
At 15 years of age the kid shouldn't be such a cry baby and go running off because mommy and daddy won't let him play his video games. |

+1
Think about it. When you were 15, you were prob very easily influenced by the "cool" things around you. In this case, it's an xbox and the kid was in fact "addicted" to the game. Someone needed to break him away from the harsh virtual reality.
I thought about running away when i didn't get what i wanted... but i was like 8 or 9... not in ing high school. |

I've read a fair bit about this story and never got the impression the parents are blaming video games. I think that's the media taking its own angle on the story - for the most part, the parents have been too distraught to really even speak to the media coherently.
I can't imagine the guilt they feel - every parent has arguments with their children - but you never expect it to be the last conversation you ever have with them. It's heartbreaking. |
Hmmm... Its funny cause they believe someone on Xbox live lured their son away and is influencing him. They're even asking Microsoft to decipher gamertags to help them out. I mean I know the media likes to play it up all the time. But I am really hopping that someone is not holding Brandon hostage or anything. |
