I dont't think they pay any rent to the city, which makes this a subsidized event.
Djs charge less on Sunday, and even less if its during day time and again even less if they really want to play at the event (if that's true).
All this being said, they deserve to make money and a thing out of love won't last this long. At the end of the day you gotta pay the bills. |

of course they make money.
but could they charge more than they do for quality bookings that rarely see north american soil?;)
do you see beb saying, ok we will charge less because we love what we do?

They pay 1$ per customer to Parc Jean-Drapeau. So on a 5000 customer day, they owe 5000$ to Parc Jean-Drapeau (at least that was the deal for 2008 season, I don't know what is the deal now, and i don't know how parc jean drapeau made sure they got paid)
And yes you are correct DJ's want to go so they charge less.
Holden costs 7000$ on a normal club night.
He charged 1000$ for himself + Nathan Fake + Fairmont cause he really wanted to play.
And yes they do deserve to make money. They almost didnt make any money on the first years.
The crazy thing is that some people (including myself) have suggested that they raise the ticket price in order to keep a quality crowd (people who are there for the music > ppl who just want to be there cause it's cool) but they have refused on every occasion.
Charging 10$ for thos crazy line ups is......crazy!
But that's the mission they set themselves to achieve, "démocratisation de la musique électronique". I don't know if that gives them govt grants for "artistic endeavour", or "événement culturel à prix modique", or whatever. It might, and that might be why they keep it so low, cause of some kind of grant. |
