2 months behind meaning: last year we had artists announced by May. This year we haven't announced any yet and it's simply because the dynamics of the event change year to year. It's not like planning an event at a set location, the city is restructured to make the event possible.

It takes a lot of time to get the city, industry, promoters, venue + nightclub managers, emergency (fire, police, medical), agents and traffic control all on the same page.

I'm not in charge of the parade, it's an extremely vast team. I co-handle and help lead the marketing and promotions for the parade and festival organization. I have similar responsibilities for Spundae and since the love team hires Spundae (meaning they organize the efforts with the founders) I just happen to inherit both responsibilities. I have absolutely nothing to do with organizing the event itself or choosing the floats.

There's no simple formula to shutting down city hall square and SF's biggest street for 8 hours to have a festival and parade.

I understand lineups are important and the excitement of seeing your favorites artists is an anticipation easily understood; but seriously some areas of the world don't even have the satisfaction of having a safe place to express themselves through dance or the feeling of just being able to without some penalty from their society.

This is a free parade and festival. Any true fan of electronic dance music should be there no matter what, unless you have personal things in your life keeping you away.
