1 word:

Buzzing!

I'm sitting in my office at work, rocking an Andy Caldwell podcast...knowing that I'm outta here and on the road to SF in an hour.

To all the DJs: Bring it and have fun!

To the party people: Be safe, respectful, and have a blast!!!

To the promoters, city of S.F. and all involved: THANK YOU!

Already eventful in the first five minutes of checking in....walk out the hotel and run into GPC & SCG...talking to Menno de Jong. I kindly interupted them all, hehe, and then went on to get Gatorade. Been up since before 7am with just a coffee and a little glass of soda all day. Got to hydrate well!

ON MY WAY TO THE CITY...:)

I was there to get the floats in order this morning. Pretty sweet stuff on the trucks for this year, i left right when the music started at about 11:40. picking up my finace then heading back in! see you all soon!

anyone know if this is streaming online anywhere? I remember 2 years ago justin.tv was streaming live from here...

Menno played a great set on the Skills float in spite of the sound cutting off for 5 mins or so. Attendance must be a record this year, insane lines to get in, more people than I have EVER seen in that area, I thought it might fill up and be closed due to capacity limits! Waited 15 minutes for a beer, then was told I can't have one without an over-21 wristband, but couldn't find the place to get the wristbands! Eff it, will make up for it later tonight at the afterparty...

I'm probably feeling bad right now because of a not-so-good combination of beer, Jack, Red bull, captain morgan, and red wine, but some things to note:

1. Wow it was cold and windy! Thank god I brough my jacket last minute.
2. It was so crowded! Probably 1/2 a million people (ok maybe an exagerration). I couldn't move. Hard to get to other floats at least.
3. Not enough bathrooms (thank god I'm a dude). oh well, drank less.
4. A lot of scantily-clad suburbanite teenagers. (apparently some of you TAs like this. hmmmmm ok.).
5. Wow there were a lot of different elements in the crowd this time. Seemed like a larger percentage of people just looking for a party. (Yes, there was a signiifcant hip-hop element. I'm not complaining, just surprised).
6. Unfortunate power failures at the Spundae float. Just as John O'Callaghan was starting to crank it. Then he left and by the time they restored power we were stuck with awful music from DJ Dan. Gave up and ended up missing up a lot of DJs I intended to see. (Thanks for the explanation DaveT, I know these things happen. Was just bummed to see it happen to one of the best floats.)
7. Opulent Temple - I could barely here the music being played. bummer
8. Listed - seemed to have to most satisfied customers. Generally had the best time with the funkiest people there.
9. next time I know to bring all my own food/drink or maybe there could be more concessions. Clearly there was not much room for it anyways.

Maybe 500k people is an over-estimate, but at $10 a head, even at half that...ok, a lot of money was taken in. I hope that will only help improve future editions.

Seriously, how many people can you fit at Civic Center? Yes, that is how many people were there. It looked like the last love parade in Berlin. 1 or 2 people hanging from every light pole/street light! (ominous!)

Good thing I caught some Myon & Shane 54 last night and my October schedule schedule is solid :)

I beg to differ from your sentiment. The event was nicely executed, although there is still lots of room for improvement.

This is derived from Love Parade. It is about acceptance, tolerance, and being inclusive. I am not saying dancing on top of an ambulance is acceptable. On the other hand, if hip-hop'ers want to join our party, let them; if kids want to dress like that, let them. Besides, edm needs to expose itself to broader audience.

Don't worry about the profit. LovEvolution is a non-profit organization.

The attendance should be a little more than last year. I will be surprised if it is more than 130k. They charge admission now, so they should be able to have an accurate count.

Nevertheless, the attendance is a source of concern. 1) Next year, the economy will be better, and more people will come. 2) Many blue-grass people probably have figured out that a dance festival is much more fun.

Now that the event generates lots of money, the attendance issue and other issues should be able to resolve one way or the other.

I might be a bit pissy right now because of a not-so-good combination of beer, Jack, Red bull, captain morgan, and red wine, but I have this to say:

1. Too cold and windy
2. Too crowded. Probably 1/2 a million people. couldn't move. (Won't be shocked to see the city crack down on this one now. Hmm the mere fact that people were dancing on top of an ambulance trying to get through can't be good.)
3. Not enough bathrooms (thank god I'm a dude)
4. Too many scantily-clad suburbanite teenagers. I'd never let my kids out to the city to dress like that.
5. What was up with all the hip-hop'ers? Do they really like EDM? or are they trying to follow P Diddy? ...oh I know, they're not all that into Blue-grass!
6. Multiple power failures at the Spundae float. Just as John O'Callaghan was starting to crank it. Then he left and by the time they restored power we were stuck with awful music from DJ Dan. Gave up and ended up missing up a lot of DJs I intended to see.
7. Opulent Temple - bad sound.
8. Listed - seemed to have to most satisfied customers.
9. What? You're hungry? thirsty?...pffft.

Maybe 500k people is an over-estimate, but at $10 a head, even at half that...someone made $$$$$$$ today!

That was the first and last time I ever bring a date whos new to the EDM scene. We got there at 4 and left at 6 because someone was getting cold and tired of the crowd and music. Waste of a $10. Oh well, got to see a few cool SFTA'S and get out of Fresno.

Haha what is you complainin bout?
Jim Carson
Wow. Complaints. Seriously? Best event ever. Yes, more bathrooms were needed. It was windy. That is nature for you. Sound problems? What do you expect? My mixer and tables fell on me when I was spinning because it was windy and there were so many heads dancing on the float bumping into the tables.

Hats off to the organizers and all the beautiful people for making it such a great experience and lovely event.

Much love!
