more on this... at 7:30 all floats are shutting down while the lovevolution live electronica stage will wind down the music from 7:30 to 8. mutaytor live will be featuring a full led wall/pyrotechnic/acrobatic live production. with the $10 fee collected this year, more production value will be added to the event in years to come.
what i took from the lovevolution meeting last night:
last year way more people showed up than the organizers had planned or staffed for and it was clear to the sfpd that this was the case. fortunately there were no incidents, but had there been one, it was apparent that no one was in control. this is a major reason why a fee was implemented this year, to cover the cost of adequate support staffing and facility levels (ie: port-o-potties). also because the city is in a major budget deficit, the costs for everything have increased.
the no glass policy is a rule for all festivals in sf, but it has been a lax policy here in the past. this is no longer the case as broken glass and cuts were a big issue last year. it is really important to our ability to have this event next year that there is no broken glass or large number of cut treatments this year. please do your part: don't bring it in, don't let your buddies bring it in, and clean it up if you see it.
the other really big sticking point was the fact that 20,000-30,000 more minors showed up last year and for many of them, this was their first party experience of this kind and it showed in how intoxicated they appeared. so if you see someone you know who looks completely plastered and not ok, alert a medic so that he/she can snap them out of it. this event looks more positive and successful when people like that aren't left for the public and police to see.
bring $10 for the gate, even if you *think* you're getting through on a float. it's simply not happening for 90% of the people who pack on to the floats throughout the parade. you will be escorted off at the float entry gate or the float doesn't enter. if you want to see a massive laser show at civic center in the future, paying the $10 is the only way it's going to happen (and there are plans for it to happen) |

my saturday checklist and reminders. any other tips or reminders to add that might be useful to us all?
- apply sun block
- cash run to atm
- pack a power bar or snack
- a few 5 hr energy drinks
- gum
- bottle of water ;)
- extra tshirt
- shoe gel inserts
- hat
- sunglasses
- remind friends about $10 entry, no glass, no alcohol
- make sure i have phone numbers of a couple visiting people
- earplugs (always have mine on keychain, and extra pair on camera bag)
- print float map and set times cheat sheet
- turn off bluetooth, wifi, and vibrate on my phone (highly recommended for those on iphones/smartphones if you want your phone to survive 12noon-whenever early am sunday)
- 30 lbs of camera gear *sigh*
- biz cards
