a post from scott from stereo's group on facebook:
"...there are plenty of people that don't have a problem with the concept. I know its not for everyone and you have the ultimate power to choose not to come and the public can vote with their wallets.
We are probably the only club in North America to try this out. Once upon a time people, went out with OPEN minds just to party. We are trying to bring those days back. The style of music is HOUSE on Saturdays. It isnt Techno, Trance, Tech House, Minimal, Breaks, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Hard House etc etc
If someone doesn't like House, then they will be better off waiting until we book another style on another night. My personal taste is not necessarily House but I have had 2 of my best nights in the last 7 years on Saturdays since we reopened!
For $35 people are getting the best in global clubbing week in and week out. The sound, the talent, the lighting, the VJ, the staff and the amazing clubbers that still come to enjoy our special vibe.
my 2 cents" |

Like I said before, this will really frustrate those that are very discriminating tastes in dj's and the many sub-genres of house, (and tech-house is certainly one of them). Personally, I have only gone to ((()) once, not knowing who was spinning and had a *meh* time. Every other time, my crew and I have been hyping each other up for weeks in advance of seeing one of our fav dj's and were never disapointed. We knew what to expect. Even if the dj has an off night, which was rare, we got to see our fav dj at our fav club.
Nobody I know likes this new concept. It's a gimmick. No one likes to play Russian Roullette with an outing. Especially myself, with needing to drive several hrs to Mtl. |

I really like the idea of redirecting the energy towards the crowd, instead of having the focus on the DJ. I totally get the point.
I have really great memories of Sona, you could barely see the DJ booth, and it's very true that it made socializing better and a friendlier vibe. Music was more mysterious, it became it's own entity, the DJ was behind it, pulling strings, not relying on Jesus poses or visual distractions.
After Sona most DJ booths became a show, where the DJ is trapped surrounded by people expecting him to not only play good music, but somehow pulling a rabbit of his ass and entertain you visually.
I got used to that, and found a way to communicate both musically and visually, but yeah, sometimes I do wish I could go back once in a while, and let the music do all the talking. I wish people would listen more and watch less.
(this is more a comment about the booth than the concept) |

i don't want to watch the dj, those mtlta's that have partied with me can vouch that i am a "2 feet on the floor, back to the booth" kinda guy. I am there to dance, i am there to hear.
I don't care what i see, but i care what i hear. You want to have no visable booth, amen i'm down, save the pyro for tiesto. You want to tell me what i should hear and not care? Sorry i have no interest in acts that play like it was 1998.:) |

Yeah but you are old school, the new generations only looks at the booth, it was already like that when they started clubbing... so this can be a welcomed change.
(still not talking about the music) |

yes, point taken.
i can't imagine what is was like to dj in the aria fish tank with people doing nothing but stare with a rape face. I'm sure you had more than one geeky guy in a rm t shirt scare the crap out of you because he just sat there staring like "children of the corn".:p
the look of the new stereo is amazing too, i have to admit that i can be a little jaded because of my hating the music that i have heard so far. As a venue the changes are top notch.:)
there is hope though. i can say that with every "young" TA i met at piknic this year, that most of the party happened behind the booth where we could not see. It is not all lost. |
