These days, if you want a movie with an original story that has never been done, and doesn't take ideas from any movie ever made, you are in for a huge disappointment, and are fooling yourself.
Nothing is 100% original. It's about taking pre-existing elements and combining them to form a new product. The best of everything, movies, music, art of any kind, is made up of this. Some artists just put in more effort to create a more unique and expressive piece of work. James Cameron isn't one of these people.

Like half this thread is people bitching and moaning because it didn't shatter artistic movie standards and some other political bull. Basically, people bitching because their expectations of the movie were too far off.
I had no expectations at all. I avoided any reviews beforehand, and saw it the day it came out. I know the danger of having expectations, so I avoided its trap. It just had a very unoriginal story. That's it. People who like it are easily blinded to reality by emotion, and because of this, probably believe Fox News.

That's funny because as we walked out of the theater, I turned to my BF and said "that was the new age Pocahontas".
Still good movie though.

I think we all said that..
The part about Pocahontas. Not about it being anywhere near a good movie.

Well, I never saw Pocahontas...
Just got back from the cinema. Loved it. Sure, the storyline was quite predictable, but it's still a pretty good story to tell.
The 3d made it extremely impressive to watch, though it was a huge strain on my eyes! My gf didn't have any issues though, maybe because she wears prescription glasses quite a bit of the time?
I'd definitely say it's the coolest animated feature film I've seen yet.

i think its retarded to think too hard about films like these. , its not like its battlestar galactica or something.

Exactly. There's no point in creating some immense storyline that will be completely missed by a large portion of it's intended audience: kids.
