Avatar looks badass. (pg. 9)

I'm keen to see this mainly for the visual effects. I heard the storyline was really cliche.

Also, their typeface for the movie poster is hilariously close to Papyrus. Fail.

Went to go see it in Imax 3D and it was pretty epic. My first 3D Imax movie and have to admit its actually worth going to the movies for.

Avatar is the best movie I'v seen in years, hands down. 10/10. 2 thumbs up. 100%. 5 stars. It's awesome.

Truly enjoyed this. Would absolutely pay to see it again and will likely do so to see it in 3D.

Really? So it didn't have a transparent plot and overdone CGI? I'm wondering if I should go see it...

Probably a good bit of both but I thought it was great anyway. Had some good touches of humor and emotion and while there were some cliches in the story I thought the overall plot was imaginative. Just like the Matrix, the overall idea of the movie was great but throughout the story you had some of the typical movie cliches, etc. Matrix is still one of my favorite movies and I think this will probably be up there too.

cameron is indeed a great director. But idk on this one. The problem is that his old movies always had a great cast. Where in this movie is there a good or steady actor? Chick from fast n furious? The lead actor who was the lead from the new terminator? Meh kinda weak. First flaw. Next flaw. Cameron has been toying with a live action/ cgi movie for awhile now. I know he mentioned it in an interview like 6 years ago. That he combined the two is credible, and most likely in imax it will be entertaining but that is about it. You won't have a real gripping story line b/c all you'll be focused on is these blue native americans. I mean in a sense it seems like he recreated how we screwed the native americans over.

Hey lets go to this planet with blue people where they respect nature and we represent change n industry. Its been done before so the plot is very cliche in the sense that it has been seen a million times.

Last flaw. The way the cgi aliens actually look. Come on people. I dont care how good cgi is it still does not replace the real thing. Now granted Cameron in his old movie had a great way of making cgi look real due to atmosphere and a lot of thanks due to the scene and photography leads. But these aliens in this movie off the bat look rediculous just overall. Too clean. Looks to much like cgi. With combining a live action/ cgi movie i figured the whole poitn was to blend it as much as possible to look real. Those little blue smurf ******s look as real as the blow up doll that Carottop bangs daily.

So am i still goign to see it, yes. But low low expectations, on three reasons

Cor version

1)No real notable cast or crew like his older movies
2)Story has been done before and is unoriginal in comparison to his other projects.
3)Cgi does not seem to blend as well I would hope and as much money has been pumped into it. 250 million i believe, i was hoping more for a blend of the two instead of a distinct change bt real n cgi

Goddamn, it's a movie. If you want pure reality, watch the ing news.

Saw this the other day at imax in 3d. Really beautiful looking movie.. truly breathtaking visuals.

Anyone criticising the storyline is an idiot. James Cameron is a Hollywood director 90% of Hollywood stories are transparent and unoriginal save for a couple of twists and devices. At least this one is openly going for the cheesiness factor, he's not pretending to be amazingly philosophical or anything. If you go into this movie expecting to be provoked into deep contemplation you're an idiot to begin with. In this sense it is no different to his other movies. James Cameron's films, to me, are all about creating an atmosphere and being entertaining on a very primal level. You don't go into terminator or aliens expecting some kind of cerebral challenge or philosophical paradigm shift.

Alien, Aliens, Terminator and Terminator 2 were all equally transparent and equally predictable, unoriginal stories. But they were great ing films because they were amazing visually, and really entertaining if you suspend your disbelief. Avatar is no different in that regard. I highly recommend seeing it in 3D.

Yes, it is visually amazing. The animals and vegetation were like an acid trip. What really impressed me personally was the facial expressions the CG was able to capture. I do recommend people see it, and make sure you do so in 3D.

I did think it was too long though, and there are so many cliches that lost it points for me. The storyline was so transparent that it just felt empty. You don't have to be making philosophical statements to create a good storyline.

SPOILER

It's basically Dances with Wolves. Guy spends time with natives, develops love interest, converts to their way, and defends against his own attacking people who don't understand the beauty of their way of life.

So because the majority of people do a mediocre job, that's an excuse for sub par writing, even after spending 15 years and $270 million on it?

I understand they had to lower the common denominator to appeal to a lot of people in order to cover the incredibly high price tag, and that's a legitimate concern. But if you're going to spend so long on a movie like Cameron did, I'd expect something with more substance than this.

P.S. Was that a Celine Dion song playing during credits?

They're all very smart films with very good storylines. You just didn't notice.
