look at the israelis history of war with surrounding states though, this is the thing. Israel is not a defensive state, it is extremely agressive and expansionist, and is, and has been heavily supported with weapons and intelligence by the US... If it was merely a matter of stopping a random boat from entering their state, fair enough, as the angry monkey said, but it was a humanitarian aid convoy which was clearly (from the video) not aggressive (no weapons on board etc etc)...

I think the problem is it does extend far beyond religious claims and lands in the waters of geopolitical sookery, as all parties involved claim to have a 'right' to the land, and neither will step down from their stubborness...
religion serves as a crucial counterpoint, but it's really the huge entitlement everyone has there which is pure nationalism that is what the problem is...
Can't everyone just dig einstein and nietzsche and be 'citizens of the world' instead of members of x state.
we're all ing people ffs.
edit: I'm not naive enough to think people will ever get to this stage, especially since nationalism is a super-popular replacement for religion (as is science), but i guess i wish people could find happiness within themselves instead of from the groups they align themselves with.... ing sheep. |
