Im not even going to pretend to know anything about Fifa/the world cup... its my first year watching...

However, if Bavaria is not an official sponsor would FIFA not be trying to protect the sponsors who paid millions of dollars?

I really don't see how thats a bad thing. I would assume that FIFA heavily relies on the revenue pulled in from official sponsors, so controlling these ambush marketing schemes is an attempt to keep a healthy relationship between fifa and the sponsors.

A relating article...

According to law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques, ambush marketing is an attempt by a third party to create an association with an event without permission and can deprive official sponsors and suppliers of public recognition, weakening their commercial investment.
FIFA makes most of its money, which has to last until the next World Cup in four years time, through selling TV rights and advertising and sponsorship deals commercial sponsors.

While it does seem extreme to be removing flags or escorting the hot ladies out, FIFA is still a business and needs to protect its revenue.

Am I the only one that remembers these 'instruments' at jays games?
I think it was a free givaway at one of the games in 2004 and everyone had them....

lol I know...All they did is lable it with a fancy new name...I can't believe the world actually believes this is some kind of South African instrument...

South Africans have been using them at soccer games for the past 20 years - so I do think its fair to say they are a part of the south african soccer culture. That being said they were invented in Mexico and have been used all around the world for decades.

But culture or not its ruining the games for millions of people :whip:
