i am not surprised that seats are empty for these games. it is in south africa, all the way the on the other side of the world. it's very hard to travel there. and obviously the locals probably can't even afford to go. or people from the surrounding countries. they don't have food so they are not going to be able to make it to a soccer game.
the horns, you just got to suck it up. that is their soccer culture, so deal. all countries are getting in on the horns, it's not just the south africans.
its not even on the other side of the world just a bit more south than europe. I just wouldnt because i dont want to get district 9'ed. i wouldnt want to party in the streets at night cause i wouldnt feel safe. especially if i had my family on vacation.

Thank you!! I think everyone just needs to realize/understand that different places in the world act differently at games. This is what happens at games in South Africa they have not adopted a "European" way of enjoying footy. It may not be favorable in your eyes but everyone said before this tourny that it was gonna be different.

small example of their soccer culture, this is the team from one of the cities where the World Cup is being held :
Would love to see this. Only few vuvuzelas in the crowd.

You guys have to understand. This whole "vuvuzela" thing was marketed like crazy, someone is making A LOT of money with it. Quite possibly FIFA is getting kickbacks from it too. This has nothing to do with their soccer culture. Are you telling me that Chinese manufactured plastic musical instrument has roots with South African culture? Please.
Back home do you think we did not have those horns? Of course we did ! You know when they were used the most ? During international games which attracted a lot of people who do not attend games on the regular basis. These vuvuzelas are just a "tourist" thing. And we all have to suffer listening to that noise.

Exactly.....its nothing more then a tourist money grab...I'm sure there are some at every soccer game played in South Africa but not like this. The Argos have had these at games for decades....this isn't anything new.
They wouldn't bother me if they weren't going off constantly.....I have given up even watching any games now....I just can't take it anymore.

See you're right and wrong with this. FIFA IS RAKING IN THE PROFIT and are certainly pushing them for the world cup. It IS being pushed as a tourist thing for the World Cup - NO DOUBT! And vuvuzela's are being sold out world wide. Fifa is a marketing machine and they realize the profit potential.
On the other hand - having attended soccer games in Cape Town - the vuvu is a south african soccer tradition. Its not some myth trumped up by FIFA. The video you posted from Bloemfontain Celtic is amazing and YES that is also part of S.A. Soccer. Check the video I posted on the first page that tells the history of the VUVU in S.A.
Yes other countries have their own versions of horns as well. The Horns in Germany '74, the ticker tape in Argentina '78, and the cornetas of Spain '82 and Mexico '86. They all played their part in the character of those respective tournaments. It gives a special atmosphere to the World Cup.

it's true, the 'vuvuzela drama' is a great way to promote the games...
