| By putting the date this earthquake happened together with 9/11, we get 9/11/01 + 3/11/11 = 12/22/12, the day after the Mayan calendar ends. Coincidence, or the end of the world? |

You're correct. It is the end of the world as we know it. Now lets sing the song! |

And if I can mask myself as a fount of rage under the assumption of moral outrage by taking a turn of phrase completely out of context, thereby co-opting the suffering of others for my own psychological needs...
Hate! :gsmile:

I was about to say "Ah perhaps in your backwards way of displaying dates" (in the UK we do DD/MM/YY)...then realised it would be exactly the same...
Damn I need coffee, Will send me some of your surplus! |

It's not even 'out of context.' It's intentional misinterpretation and fabrication, for the purpose of stirring up outrage. The fact that all the context IS there is what makes any outcry over this absurd. Hey, a way to shut up Larry Kudlow! All abooooooard! |
No, it's just him saying something in a really insensitive manner. I understand what he's saying, but he still comes off incredibly offensive. And he apologized, probably mostly because everyone got (understandably) pissed off, but also because he realized that the way he said it sounds extremely offensive. I don't think anyone is intentionally trying to misinterpret him or make anything up. There isn't some huge liberal conspiracy to get him off the airwaves before he wakes up the conservative movement or points out some hideous truth about liberals.
Also,Larry Kudlow is an idiot who is still clinging to trickle down economics and thinks more tax breaks will solve everything. If anyone is wanting to shut him up it's simply because he's a moron. |

| Looking at that guy on the far left, I imagine the expression on his face isn't from holding up the concrete. |

A: The only thing offensive about it is that people could actually get away with interpreting that as 'the economy is definitely a priority over those dead japs.'
B: If he apologized, it was 100% due to public pressure stirred up by illiterate rage-quitters. The only thing that qualifies his phrasing as a 'poor choice of words' (which is, really, the worst you could say about it) is that it failed to completely guard him from the heckling of the destitute internet trolls and political hacks sitting poised and ready.
C. I know it will spark another debate I have no intentions of seeing to its fruitless end, but I can't help but note that if you are somehow under the impression that Larry Kudlow is "an idiot," you know a lot less than you think. Unlike with musical production and DJing, the 'well, what have YOU done?' rebuttal does apply in economics.
