Even current and former nuclear techs can't know exactly what is happening in the reactors.

I know a nuclear tech who said several days ago that it had to be worse than they were letting on. 2 days ago they started pouring Boron on to the reactor, and according to this guy that is one of the LAST things you attempt.. It is a last ditch effort at preventing radiation from spilling out after all other efforts fail. Since that was apparently one of the first things they tried in this case, it can't be a good sign.

You understand what Boric Acid does, right?

It was one of the first things they did, because it absorbs neutrons. This was done in the beginning to slow the nuclear chain reaction even faster, after the control rods were automatically inserted when the quake hit. There has NOT been a nuclear chain reaction happening anywhere in the plant for DAYS now. The issue is with the nuclear fuel decaying from being exposed, and that their cooling systems have been knocked out.

I would like a source on the Japanese using Boric Acid in the last day, or even two days.

Only noticed this today or i would have gotten to it sooner.

Am actually astonished that you firmly believe the risks are acceptable .. to build plants in regions that are prone to Earthquakes

Consider the tsunami was 30ft in max height reportedly .. 30ft is SFA in sailing in storm force seas as this video will show you and please notice that the flight deck sits 60ft above the water line ..and still the waves come over the top again that blows your claim that the 30ft waves is only a 1 in 10,000 year event ..

when waves of such height are a common occurance out at sea

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccn3ieux6iU

Yeah, those waves at sea in the vid have nothing whatsoever to do with tsunamis no matter how frequent they are. Those are ordinary wind waves, they could be 10 times the size of what they are in that video and hit the power plant and we probably still woudnt be having the problems we have today. I dont like posting youtube links as my arguments, but im to busy to write a responce right now and this guy is apparently a weatherman so he knows the difference between wind waves and tsunamis which you apparently dont so ill let him explain it to you.

They may think they do, but as with every other nuclear accident, most of the hard facts won't be discovered until later when the incident has been resolved and research is able to be done.

I think a more interesting question is that if that crazy nuclear fallout in the US picture was true, would our government tell us? If yes, what would they do? Is it even possible to evacuate millions of people in 10 days, most of whom are probably in a panic?

Yea, you can study it, learn about it, and make educated guesses and speculation into what is or could happen...

Or you could be a ing moron and invent in your head like "what if this obviously fake image is true, would the government tell us" and go on living a scared, pathetic life of paranoia and mistrust that is based on ignorance and self-loathing.

Like I said before, I didn't mean to offend anyone. However, this is painful to watch already and, if there's any snideness in my comment, it's not directed at the believers of a higher power, but at Whoever is in charge. I get it, just a few thousand people were affected by this, but isn't it enough already!?

And I don't want this to be a religious debate, there are more serious problems to think about, such as the existence of this group whose pics Moongoose demands to see:

For the record; I was not offened (nor am I ever when people question/mock my faith); rather, I just thought your taking the opportunity to make an unprevoked jab at people who (misguided as they may be) are only showing love for the very same people you are exhibited profoundly poor taste and judgment on your part.

I'll try and find where I read that the boric acid had to be added to the salt water for some reason...
Joss Weatherby
Salt water can increase the ability of neutron transport... Boron is probably being added to prevent that.

For example, the original Little Boy bomb design, they were scared that a crash landing in the water before the bomb was dropped would cause a fizzle or premature detonation to occur if salt water got into the cannon tube assembly of the weapon. The salt water would allow neutron transport between the target rings at the front of the bomb and the projectile rings at the back of the bomb, causing criticality. :nervous:

Yah that's it..

Thanks. I was way too lazy to look it up..

This earthquake released a surface energy (Me) of 1.9±0.5×1017 joules,[63] dissipated as shaking and tsunamic energy, which is nearly double that of the 9.1-magnitude 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that killed 230,000 people, and flung the 2,600 ton Apung 1 ship 2 to 3 km (1.2 to 1.9 mi) inland. "If we could only harness the [surface] energy from this earthquake, it would power [a] city the size of Los Angeles for an entire year," USGS director Marcia McNutt said in an interview.[64] The total energy released, also known as the seismic moment (M0), was more than 200,000 times the surface energy and was calculated by the USGS at 3.9×1022 joules,[65] slightly less than the 2004 Indian Ocean quake. This is equivalent to 9.32 teratons of TNT, or approximately 600 million times the energy of the Hiroshima bomb.
