| I see the reasoning behind banning assault rifles, pistols, and hell Americans even have access to LMG's in some parts. But I don't think that'll end up removing the chance of these things happening. There are plenty of unregistered or illegal weapons floating around. A determined nutter will still manage to get his hands on something. :( |

This country will never learn.
Two (nationally covered) shootings in one week.
A mall and an elementary school. It can't get much worse than that.
Hooray lobbyists!
There's deeper rooted issues in this country leading to these results, but can anyone tell me how allowing guns to be readily available for anyone is a step in the right direction?
To avoid tyranny?
I just can't believe after all of the massacres that continue to occur people still have the nerve to defend the Second Amendment in 2012.
Times change.
It's time Obama did more than just talk about abridging this part of the constitution. |
i was watching this documentary just yesterday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqHB4hVSHtE
it's called 'Murder by Proxy: How America Went Postal'. it's interesting but blames the problem primarily on alienation and s pushing people over the edge.
but it almost completely ignores the problem of gun control, as one of the commenters on there has pointed out |

They can still stop the sale of all pistols and assault rifles from here on out. My girlfriend owns a Glock 9mm and I ing hate it. In NYS all pistol permits are concealed carry, so she even had special holsters so she could carry it when she was running or walking alone at night or whatever. I told her she needed to stop, and bought her pepper spray, so then I find out she's been keeping it in the glove box of her car.
She now has it locked in a safe in her house, and it won't be leaving that safe anytime soon. |

Everywhere? Yea right. You can do that, but it'd just move everything underground.
What you need to do is close gun show loopholes, and implement stricter federal regulations on registration, so you can keep track of purchased guns.
Even that is almost pointless. There are more private guns in this country than most of the rest of the world combined, they'll continue to move freely.
Our society is unhealthy, violent, and prone to this , and we have enough arms to make it really easy to do. |

My view is if you have a gun period, then you have contributed to a shooting death. One less gun means one less chance of a shooting. Plus don't give me that bul where knives and other objects can kill just like a gun because they don't!
The only way I have lost my argument is when the 2nd amendment was passed in 1791. Since then, we been ed and well thats my rant! |

New York is at least somewhat competent in regards to that approach. It takes about a year to get a permit, you need like 6 character references, all residing in the county that you live in, and none of them can be relatives. You also get a full background check obviously, including mental health and/or substance abuse arrests/treatment. They check your prescription history to see if you had been prescribed any narcotics and/or mental health drugs, and finally it needs to be signed off on by a judge.
It should be at LEAST that stringent everywhere. |

Maybe we should just teach our kids how to shoot guns when they're old enough to hold them steady, and relax gun laws even more so they are able to carry them to school to defend themselves.
There's the solution!
We all must carry guns to avoid the risk of being shot and killed in an unexpected moment of terror. After all, our rights allow us to do so. We must take full advantage of it! |

Thats what the ultra gun people would want. Let's give guns to kids now because now they need them to protect their ass!
I have two sayings. Are you 1 or 2?
1. No gun, No Protection
2. One less gun, One less dead
I am #2 but that will never happen due to the gun MFG, lobbiyst,NRA,etc and lots of $$$ involved. |

This should apply to non restricted firearms as well. I would definitely push for the mental evaluation and background checks. Getting my non restrcited firearms permit was ridiculously easy, and that scares the hell out of me. It literally takes a day and about 150$ to get your permit here. |

That is extremely poor reasoning... |
