i say: no. the braves are the braves. for the past 3 years we (fans of NL east teams) have been told "it's the end of the braves winning the division." yet they always seem to manage it. chipper is chipper, one of the most underrated players in the game. andruw jones got fat to try and hit more homers to compensate for losing sheff, lopez, et al so his play his the field has been sucky. he'll figure that out sooner than later and shed the pounds and go back to what he was: the ebst centerfielder in the game (in my eyes). johnny estrada's ops is .874, not bad for a catcher. adam la roche will be good eventually, but julio franco (at age 45) fills in rather nicely with an .818 ops. marcus giles is a freak of nature. drew is more than making up for sheffield with an ops over 1.000.
i dunno, i guess their pitching isnt the power house it used to be, but despite whatevery thinks, pitching alone does not win ballgames. look at the yankees starters last year. their era's arent spectacular, but when given 5 - 8 runs a game, its pretty much a given you're gonna win.
i pick atlanta to finish 2nd behind the marlins though. before the season started i went with the phillies in 1st.... but i dunno now.
on a side note, cliff floyd is back today. :wtf: |
