last saturday, myself, my girlfriend, her sister and her boyfriend were lounging in a pool hall in Queens, NY.. i was drinking pints of sam adams draft beer.. we ate, laughed, etc.. had a good time.. spent a good three hours and i had 4 pints during this time.. we decided to go somewhere else around 2am so we got in my car and drove off.. i was fumbling with my cd player (trying to take out the Deep Dish GU Toronto and trying to input the new armin).. i must have not made a turn signal because next thing you know, i noticed the sirens and the flashings of the cop car behind me..

he asked for my license and asked if i had been drinking. i told him (irish / mid 30s) i had one beer.. he told me to get out and blow on his alcohol "tester".. i didn't feel drunk at all and i was 75% sure that i would not be tested as intoxicated.. i took a chance and blew.. he said i was not intoxicated but not sober ..
he cuffed me right there and took me in to the first of the many police precincts I will see in the next 16 hours (he left the car to my group as the car was under my father's name).. as i got in the car, i asked my peeps for all the quarters that they had and they gave me 8..

for those of you that have never been taken in (my first time also)
let me break it down..was cuffed to a bar for an hour with 3 other perps. they take your shoelaces and belt so you can't commit suicide. then had to take another alcohol "blow" test while being video taped (.8 or higher is driving while intoxicated and .6 - .7 is what I've now come to know as "driving while impared"). I blew a .72 then they put me in a small (maybe 5'x5') holding cell while the douche was filling out the paperwork.. you get fingerprinted electronically.. then i was back in this tiny cell for the next 5 ing hours.. i kept asking him wtf is taking so long for the next step and he just said we have to wait for a car to take me to central booking..

around 8am, they take me out and two female rookie officers starting their shift take me into their car and we drive to rego park queens criminal court which is a jail/court. after giving me an apple and a small milk carton, i was put in the next holding pen (about the size of a medium size bedroom)... there were around 20 people in there and it was filthy (other inmates told me that this is like the Hilton compared to the ones in the other boroughs).. it was around 9am sunday morning.. keep in mind i was "caught" around 2am Saturday night/sunday morning. I spent around 4 hours here and was also interviewed by a guy that works there who asked strange questions such as how much money i make, where do I work, etc.)

then taken into yet another holding pen (the system moves really slow) and was there for yet another 4 hours. there was a pay phone in there and those 8 quarters come in really handy (if you ever get taken in, they are gold)

as the system moves, yet transfered to another and final holding pen.. was in there for yet another 3 hours or so and finally met with the "house" lawyer who advised I will probably get a 3 month suspension on my license with a $400 fine. i said fine, just get me the out of here.. my name gets called and i'm led into the court room.. the lawyer says he made a really good deal and the final outcome was a $95 fine w/a $100 surcharge and no suspension on the license (since its my first arrest w/no prior convictions)..

I got out around 6pm.. I will never forget that sandwich they gave away at 9am and 1pm which was a piece of some type of bologne substitute between two pieces of white bread.. system blows but I feel really lucky.

wow . crazy story at least you were able to get out pretty good.

if this was your first arrest, why did you think to take all those quarters to begin with? i mean how did you know that you were going to need it?
