Crespo and Zlatan better than Obafemi Martins by a long shot and even if they do leave will we buy someone better than Martins then too. Look who wants him Newcastle & Portsmouth....United need a striker they dont go after this guy. And no offense to Newcastle and Pompey but they are not on the level with Inter |

Portsmouth won't be getting Martins, they haven't even lodged a bid. Martins has told the press he is joining Newcastle tomorrow and the club have confirmed that it is only a matter of paperwork now, he is flying into Newcastle late tonight or tomorrow morning to finalise the deal.
Portsmouth have a rich new owner, so they can offer huge personal terms, but everyone knows they're still Portsmouth and they're finding it hard to attract the top players. This Portsmouth-Martins thing is all media speculation to try and keep the Martins story going. They did the same thing about Kuyt going to Liverpool and Newcastle being interested, we never even put a bid in for him because Martins was always our first choice. |

Ah that explains alot I was wondering why Pompey was interested in these high level players like D'Allesandro and Aimar and Martins seemed quite odd.
Also I though Newcastle's first choice was Klose? Keep us posted I may hate him but I wish him to succeed as he was one of us at one time :p just like Emre well sort of he just didn't want to fight for a place or stay healthy:stongue: |

Well I suppose Klose was our first choice out of all the strikers out there, but it became apparent that he wanted a Champions League club and that Werder Bremen would want a hell of a lot of money.
We then began looking at strikers in the £10m bracket and Kuyt and Martins seemed to be the main choices. The manager scouted Kuyt a few times and followed him at the World Cup but ultimately we didn't even bid for him. We've ended up paying the same money for Martins that Liverpool paid for Kuyt, so we definitely had the money. Our manager has been talking about the need for pace since Owen was injured at the world cup, and Kuyt isn't quick at all so I don't think he was ever going to splash a big sum of money on him. When Inter signed Crespo we saw an opportunity to get Martins and once Ibrahimovic also joined Inter, I was confident we'd get him. We need Martins more than Kuyt IMO.
Portsmouth don't have the reputation to attract the biggest players, but maybe in a couple of seasons if they can get themselves into Europe (UEFA Cup) they will get some mercenaries in. They have signed up Sol Campbell, but in the end I think they were the only English club willing to gamble on him for big wages with his fitness and apparent mental issues at the moment. Their tiny stadium doesn't exactly help them either. |

ah alright then not to offend you but where has the Newcastle thread gone??
Martins is a toss up for you IMO he will be good or just trash like he is now here. Hopefully you guys can teach him to do more things than run fast.
Anyways Inter news: nothing to report really except Juve may be further punished YAY |

The Martins to Newcastle move is complete and even though I hate you I dont personally I just hate the fact that Inter thought he was good enough to be a #1 or #2 Striker for us (which he was never good enough for). Good luck few supersticous concerns number 1 being that he has never had a bad injury yet....and all our players who move to the EPL suck as of late (Emre, Soronodo, van der Meyde).
Anyways the Champions League draw has been held and we are in a somewhat tough group.
FC Bayern Munich
Sporting Lisbon
Spartak Moscow
Few observations : Bayern is a very good side but still are lacking a bit of that magic they had a few years back. This shall be a good test for the boys to see what we are made of. Biggest threat will be if Bayern are fully healthy which they havent been in a while. Could see us winning at home and tieing them in Munich.
Sporting Lisbon : Your basic Portugese side with less firepower much less than Porto and less than Benfica. Should be able to beat these guys both legs or atleast take 4 pts. Figo's ex club and we just played these guys in a friendly. Then again Portugese sides in the Champions League are dangerous and we need to beware and Mancini will have to warn against complacency.
Spartak Moscow : Very happy to see them drawed in our draw as I will 100% be going to probably both matches home and away. They are a tricky little club with many good "unknown" to many players. Not as good as CSKA but still pretty good. We play them on Halloween which is not as bad as playing them late in November...Moscow Nights :nervous: will be a bitch for the boys travel wise.
All the training going as planned into the Suppercoppa!
Forza Inter! |
