Sampdoria coach Walter Novellino has ruled out a reunion with unsettled Internazionale ace Alvaro Recoba.
Novellino worked with the Uruguay international when the attacker spent time on loan at Venezia during the 1998/99 season.
Recoba performed superbly with Venezia and Novellino is still in awe at the ability of the 28-year-old.
But Recoba's stock has fallen at Inter this season as he has struggled for first team action and recently had a bust-up with coach Roberto Mancini.
He has been linked with Sampdoria, who play Inter early in the New Year, but Novellino feels the club would be unable to take Recoba to Genoa.
"I don't want to give illusions to our supporters," Novellino told Corriere dello Sport.
"I know perfectly well that the president is a realistic person and that it isn't easy to bring in Recoba.
"It would be a really difficult negotiation. But if you ask me, well, I'll take him running."
While Novellino would relish Recoba at Sampdoria, he is adamant that the South American deserves an even bigger stage than Inter.
He added: "Recoba, for me, isn't a player for Inter or for Sampdoria.
"Alvaro is a player for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, for a top club.
"And you know why? Because he's a real player."

Real wants Adriano...Inter says he will not be sold. This story will be around til the start of next season for sure. Hopefully Inter will keep there new golden boy. Really would hate to see him leave like Crespo,Ronaldo,Cannavaro have done in the past 3 seasons.
Cesar looks set to join Inter in exchange for *y Ze Maria. 1 bad brazilian for another, not sold on Cesar at all.
Esposito from Cagliari has attracted interest from every major club including Inter. Would be nice to actually sign an Italian player for once. Think his future is in Milan or Barca though. He is quite a talent if you ask me pulsar would agree I think.
Kompanys agent was in Italy for the new year no word on where though |

Inter is looking into getting Walter Samuel from Real during the tranfer window. meh, another overated Argentinan, he s n sucked with Real,and he hates it there.
