uhhhh, moving on and growing isnt that a sort of evolution? on the contrary i think music undergoes a constant evolution at least in the sense that you suggest that it is always changing - i actually think we agree on these points. between artists it is a far cry from what it was last year, the year before that, the year before that and it is so different from what it originally started as that the trance that is in demand now is no longer comparable to the trance class of 94. spend alot of time listening to trance and you lose a sense of just how much it has actually changed.
if anyone here disagrees with ken (and i do) getting uptight about it is like the stoopidest thing you can do. if you have spent any length of time trying to write good trance you'll *know* how difficult it is. same with writing good anything. it involves an intimate knowledge and experience of the community/scene around it and the mindset that this music is supposed to evoke. so if you know that why do you need to take someone else's opinion on it to heart? its definitely good enough for me, that i recognise that pretty much all the music out there requires a specific talent to make and im not so arrogant that i think i can make a trance classic in 3 weeks. if you can, good on you - you truly are one of the best minds of my generation and you'll go far. forgive us if we think you are full of empty words though - the odds do seem stacked against you on this one ;) . i respect the fact that some people here and in the trance scene are gifted musicians and producers and theres always something you can learn from people that seem to be doing something right that you arent. if other people dont see that its their loss.
everyone is entitled to their opinion but to ken, there really is more to this whole thing than just banging down a kick drum and adding a bass preset on your roland synth and there you have it - instant TARNCE!!1 i think if you spend any length of time trying to get underneath the music you'll begin to notice the little intricasies, the stuff that you take for granted. i got the basics of trance production down but theres a life time of little nuances i have to pick up, the ones which just separate the amateur junk from the really amazing, genre transcending tunes. |

The thing is, trance in its current state can't evolve. Whenever someone tries to introduce new sounds to trance they put it in a new genre/subgenre. Look at Ferry's productions for example - it's still trance (same structure and feel), he just changed the sounds from the usual presets somewhat and suddenly we have a new genre they call "electro trance". Great. |

You ignorance is entertaining, keep it up :D
that said, I am bored of trance now, took me 6 years, but I just cant find anything that really grabs me any more, getting more into breakbeat and funky now. |

I was entitled to my own opinion in the first post I made in this thread. All everybody here did was bash on me..whether it was about my age or what I like/dislike.
You people call me ignorant...put yourself in my shoes and read through some of the posts where you all have just bashed me.

Trance is simple too produce, really simple.. and alot of people are doing it.. but GOOD trance on the other hand.. IS difficult to make.. but although.. it IS harder to be in a band though.. cause u must be atleast 3 or 4 people.. (unless ur Moby of course:rolleyes: )
knowing how to use your given instrument..
but still as trance is made by computer is maybe the reason it sounds so damn good... everything can sound 100% perfect in any way.. computer can do what a man cant.. and some of that is what trance is all about.. so go play with your Trumpet Ken, and we will go playing our computers.. |
