^^ brendon said it well
To restate what I said, they got bored with the genre becuase they've been doing it so long (as you can tell by the quality of their tracks). Once you master the trance genre, I would recommend looking elsewhere as well to expand your horizons.. until then.. BUGGER OFF :p
@ everyone considering changing genres becuase airbase/envio did... "baaaaaaaaaaaaa"
I can't say I blame Envio for changing to Disco House... it's SOOOOOO FUN!! :toothless
just listen to the demo on his website |

Trance isnt dying! jesus!
It's just got really commercial lately, I mean, Motorcycle - As the rush comes at No.1 for however many weeks. IMO thats pretty crazy for a proggy trance tune! (even tho it does rock bells) I mean look at the rest of the that gets into the No.1 position (McFly, Busted etc) its uncomparable.
Its just the way dance music works, everything starts underground, then every now and again a different genre will become popular with the masses, have a brief moment of fame in the charts - this is obv when it all starts to sound the same - then the masses get bored of it because it all sounds the same, and it goes back underground and evolves again. Its happened for every genre of EDM. First with house, then garage, trance, Dnb ect. Breaks was even getting high up in the charts a couple of years back! (and that croud are fiercely anti-commercial!). The thing is normally these fads only last a couple of years, but somehow trance manages to get up in the charts regularly! I think that just shows how generally popular the genre is.
Does anyone else listen to radio 1 at the weekend at prime time? Its about 90% trance! The rest being house. (Ignoring wigga Tim Westoods excuse for a show).
Trance is not dying, it never will. "Everyone" has been saying house is dying for a good.....many years now. Has it? I don't think so. (I like house btw - sorry all!).
Like i said before its just evolving and changing, there are so many variants of trance now, just because its not all "old school euphoria" doesnt mean it isnt trance!
I'm just talking from a UK perspective here, I'd like to hear viewpoints from other country persepectives tho.
P.S. I wanna see Psy Trance in the charts!!! Yeeaaw! Stomping on TOTP! Stomp Stomp Stomp Stomp!!! |

| haha i belive this might be happening...... but hey it its like this.... there will allways be someone ina genre that produce it that much better and is that much more creative so let the non creative typical trance sounding producer who think internet piracy is ruining their tie tracks go to another genre..... i really dont care. this is a rather stupid thread and i think its probly been ruining too long as i thought itd die before it even hit 3 pages so it. but anyhow quit making music i dont care quit a genre instead of trying to make more then one genre at one time its no big deal. i hardly attempt to produce within one genre everytime i open my host. somedays its experimental some days its techno some days its downtempo somedays its trance somedays its proggy house...... big deal. btw airbase isnt that great and hes rather annoying to talk to one day i ask him why he only uses reasona nd his responses was he doesnt have time to learn another host and how to program vstis. look at the response then look at his music and it makes sense |

*yawn*
I see comments like this all the time. OMGZ, PERSON X THAT USED TO LIKE TRANCE NOW LIKES TECHNO & HOUSE, TRANCE MUST BE DYING!
It's pretty fricken normal for people to get bored of a genre and start listening to other things. In europe I guess most people hear trance as their first genre of electronic music, but in Canada that's not the case at all. The house scene is WAY bigger than the trance scene, and in Montreal specifically the techno scene is also much bigger. Personally I started off listening to house and drum & bass, and ended up discovering trance after that. After listening to trance for a while I started to prefer the sounds of progressive house and tech house, and now tend to be listening to a lot more techno. I too am finding a lot of the typical ASOT stuff to be pretty boring, but I see this as just another revolution of the genre.
In 2001-2002, there was still a lot of 1999 style being made, and people would constantly say "trance isn't going anywhere, it all sounds like the stuff made in '99 except worse". Lo and behold, this ASOT sound pops up and people are hailing it as the next coming of Christ and talkign about how awesome trance is again. Now the ASOT sound is getting boring, so once again people are saying that music is not evolving and all sounds the same. While I can't predict the future, I'd definitely wager to say that trance isn't going to disappear altogether, and that the next movement of it will come along that will blow the standard sound away. Two-three years from now, I'm sure that sound will become tiresome as well, and we'll be seeing these exact same posts again.
As more and more "pure trance" artists start to dabble in other sounds, the genre itself will strengthen as opposed to become weaker. I don't understand how people can say that the genre is not evolving. Just because Tiesto and ASOT aren't evolving, doesn't mean the genre isn't.
BTW Passiva, what would you classify Ava Mea - In The End as? Just because it's not 140bpms doesn't mean it's not trance =P (awesome track btw, love it). IMO, almost everything Markus Schulz plays is "trance", it just has a proggier feel to it. |

yeah, and if you think about it almost all of our favorite producers have drastically switched their sounds... mostly in-genre, meaning someone like Ferry who went from uplifting to an electro-edge. However, look at someone like BT... we still consider him a god but now hes writing music for madonna and other pop artists.

| yeah.. trance isnt dying.. but the percentage of GOOD trance getting released is getting smaller as the amount of producers are getting larger... everyone wants a piece of the cake..but there arent enough for everyone.. |
