is it just me, or are the "two-headed" running back tandem teams starting to become more of a familiarity in the nfl now ?

miami (brown and williams)
pittsburgh(parker and bettis)
cleveland (droughns and green)
tennessee (brown and henry)

denver(bell and anderson)
kansas city(holmes and johnson)

dallas ( jones and since they are having success without jones )
ny giants (barber and ward)
atlanta (dunn and duckett)
tampa bay (williams and pittman)

new orleans (smith and stecker)
st louis (jackson and faulk)

there are many teams that have the two headed running back combination, where they would rotate the two running backs, and at the end of the game, the two running backs would have 10+ carries .. this could be a growing trend in the nfl now ..

there were a few teams that had this a couple of years ago, with tampa bay (alstott and dunn), washington ( their cycle of running backs), and cleveland (green and insert name here).

i think this is a great idea for the nfl, because it increases the longeivity of the common running back. many running backs are getting wore down and prone to the evil ACL injury, because of the numerous hits they get, amount of carries and touches per game, and stuff ..

also, maybe it's just me, but i think we can all this the age of the running backs .. in the 80's to 90s, it was the quarterbacks (montana, elway, marino, favre, young, aikman) that were the cream of the crop. although marino didn't win a super bowl (sadly), all six quarterbacks promised big numbers and entertainment week in and week out. if we leave out emmitt smith and barry sanders, what other running backs were there back then ???

today's decade, we can't say it now, but in 3 to 4 years, we can say these group of running backs have set the two standards of what a running back should be :

holmes, faulk, tomlinson, barber, edge james (the pass catching running back that can go out in the open, and catch those 15 to 20 yard passes)

lewis, alexander, curtis martin, corey dillon, bettis (the bruising back that can promise 20+ carries and hard earned yards)

all these guys have been putting up gaudy numbers, and "somewhat" helped their teams to the light of success .. although this decade has been ruled by the belichick, brady, and pats dynasty (yes they are one .. ) , i cant overlook the direction many teams are going now . this can't promise success for teams, but like i said above, it is going to increase the number of years for the common running back.

also with this coming of age with two headed running backs, we may see teams actually going back to old school football, and run the football more .. i don't want to say 75% run, 25% pass schemes ... but more like 45% run, 65% pass .. i see more teams run the ball around 30 to 35 times a game now .. some teams running 200+ yards a game ... if they don't, then they either don't have a quality running back, or playing catch up ...

enough of my ranting ....

in other news, how about them g-men ... whooping up on the redskins .. woo! .. and what a sad day for the eagles .. i knew they were going to lose to the broncos, but i didn't know their defense was going to get slaughtered like that .. 2 100+ yard running backs ... plummer throwing 300+ yards ... :wtf:

and the saints lose again ... .. geez .. this is usually the typical scenario for them .. look for them to have a strong novemeber and december, and sell themselves short to make the playoffs ...

and geez ! .. how bad is the afc east ?? they are practically giving the division away to the pats .. the jets, dolphins, and bills look awful right now .. well the dolphins can give the pats trouble with the brown/williams combination, because the pats run d doesn't look good right now .

in other nfl news,

daunte culpepper is out for the rest of this season, and probably as much as half of next season with 3 ligament tears in his knee .. ouch!! .. that is the common running back injury, and hopefully, he can return back to normal after surgery and recovery. not many nfl players can come back after this type of injury ..

and sadly enough, the swirl around minnesota is getting worse . i heard rumors that daunte was "crying and sheding tears" to mike tice about his injury, and mike tice told the press this .. how lame ..

and another news around minnesota is that on saturday night, the owner of the minnesota vikings called a team meeting, and tried to prep his team for the game against the panthers by showing the buster douglas-mike tyson fight .. how lame ...

these are just rumors ..

So much for Arizona trading for Culpepper. Enjoy Arizona or Cleveland, Matt Leinart.

you forgot new orleans . we are 2-6 right now. i would be happy to see new orleans drop the rest of their games in november and december, and then drop aaron brooks. the guy's been in the nfl for 7 years now, 6 with the saints, and he still makes bonehead decisions. i don't know who to blame, the off coordinator, haslett, or brooks himself. we have the weapons (stallworth, horn) at wr, williams at te, and mccalister at rb with a solid fb mike karney, but brooks keeps screwing up with the interceptions, blown plays, dropped balls, or just taking the sack. i just don't get it.

maybe with matt leinert, the saints will have a better chance at getting to the red zone, and then they can take it from there. brooks tends to get into 3 and outs a lot. i just don't get it. :conf: ..

Brooks doesn't seem to believe in going through his reads and checkdowns, always looking for the home run ball...which is odd because his first year in new orleans he threw the ball alot to chad morton out of the backfield and was making plays on his feet...you just don't see that anymore.BTW their line did a horrendous job of blocking up front, almost as bad as tampa's .I am for Tampa starting Tim Rattay at this point...Simms outright sucked

chad morton ftw.
he was a good returner, and had a bright future with the saints, but he wanted to look for furthur advancements with the jets, and didn't want to play next to i believe fred mcafee ... well later mcafee left, and we got michael lewis, which was a blessing. however, he's out for the year .

mccalister was doing well. he is a good pass catching back who can consistently get 4 to 6 catches a game, if the plays were drawn out for him, and if brooks would actually throw correctly at him, rather than at his helmet or shoulder pads .. ... but i think the saints have a bright future with mccalister, smith, and stecker, if they stick around after this year ...

hey .. at least chris simms is better than our qb carousel of a couple of years ago with kerry collins, heath shuler, danny weurffel, doug nussmier, and steve walsh ....

:nervous:

it's a rebuilding process ... isn't simms your third string quarterback or something .. ???

Umm didn't you guys also have Jake Delhomme...yeah,that worked out well.

Simms is the #2 but gruden is already pissed at him so he may fall behind Luke McCown pretty soon,i wouldn't be surprised if he is calling Gannon"hey rich ,hows that broken neck?can you suit up next week?"

i was listing failures with the saints, not successful backups .. :wtf: ..

but just to let you know .. when delhomme was drafted by the saints, he was very bad ... and when i say bad, i mean REALLY bad .. i remember during drills and stand around sessions, he barely hit his targets, even when they are standing still . :nervous: .. i remember this one time he almost missed a stationary target that was about 5 yards away from him ..

oh how much things have changed ....

Damn that sounds like trent dilfer's first 2 years in tampa and shaun king's last 2 years..bad when the only thing you can say about your starting qb is that he has great poise

great poise, a good sense when danger is coming, and a fast learner .. sometimes they will throw that "great arm" quote here and there, but we spectators don't see that arm .. must be in that mischievious blind spot i miss all the time .. hahhaha ...

i wonder how those detroit fans are loving the harrington-garcia era .. :nervous:

wow saints talk on Halloween, how fitting :nervous:

too much to quote but Brooks just basicly stinks , ever since he got that big contract the word out is that he became uncoachable and is too overconfident for a guy that just stinks.I mean Brooks made Gus look like a average qb on sunday, thats scary.

haha nah Gus missed so many open passes thank god the Ronnie/RastaRicky combo worked finally.

the ronnie/rastaricky combo that could give the pats problems, if their run defense continues to persist.

the ravens give the steelers a scare tonight. i am upset with myself, because i was close to taking the ravens and 11 on tonight's game .. the table would gave given me a nice sum .. :wtf: .. i had a hunch the ravens would put up a fight, but come up short .. i knew 11 is too large of a line for the ravens ..
