The Real Reason Why Paul Oakenfold is Hated NOW [OAKENFOLD ESSENTIAL MIX 2006 THREAD]

Especially
[FOR PEOPLE WHO LISTENED TO HIM BACK IN THE 1990s]

[THE REASON: THE MUSIC]

Here's my take.

1. Look folks, his mixing has always off. No need to hide this fact.

For example: Listen to any of his EM from 1999 and compare to say...his essential mix from ibiza in 2003. Decent Mixing at best.

Creamfields 2000. Pete Tong and Seb Fontaine trainwrecked left and right but yet they still managed crowd pops because of the music.
Aztec mystic-jaguar,oliver Lieb presents Smoked -Metropolis etc

Oakenfold's own mixing in that set from 2000 was off as well.

Where did the respect come from then???????????

The tracks.

Paul Oakenfold at that time played music that no one else had at that time. People took months after his mixes to go out and even find his tracks he played in his mixes. Hell, there are still some productions from 2002 and back people are trying to find.

There is now a plethora of producers and DJ's that feed each other the music now. Paul Oakenfold hasn't taken the time anymore to go out and find the new music. At that time no one else had them which was what made Oakie great.
Today so many DJ's get so many promos from every producer from a swamped dance industry. The industry is saturated with music and everyone is thirsting to get known. Paul Oakenfold isn't the main medium as 1999 and such.
Planet Perfecto Label Releases have almost come to a dead halt which has hampered him as well.
Well, the evolving dance industry itself has essentially whipped out this legend. Nowadays every DJ has the banger tunes now.

Let me quote someone from the GU FORUM when they said it best.

Can you imagine Desyn Masiello or M.A.N.D.Y. pulling something similar off? Can you imagine a nerd dj with perfect, flawless mixing but not a proper banger in his record bag even coming close to that?

With all this said, Lets turn our attention to
PAUL OAKENFOLD's ESSENTIAL MIX 2006 on APRIL 30th.

I am not a big fan of Oakenfold
, but he does have some good tunes, and he did do a lot for EDM, he may not be the best mixer , but I respect him for helping making EDM what it is today.....
So Oakenfold gets a T up from me.....

You have to be a real dick to completely up an EM. He ha[s/d] good taste in tunes, I wouldnt even care if it was compiled digitally, as long as we get to hear some kickass tunes.

So lets just hope he doesnt it up.

I'm excited about his EM.

Nothing will ever come close to his '99 Essential Mixes....

I would say you're spot on the money, ArgentinaHouse.

Buuuut...I'd go back a few years further. Oakenfold really tanked after Tranceport. That was the beginning of the end, when he was no longer interested in playing interesting tunes, but just selling the years chart toppers in a shiny compilation with boring mixing.

He has done some decent mixes. I would say his Global Underground in NY was his last good one. But even there you could see the wheels were beginning to fall off the operation.

Truly a man that has fallen from grace. Now, is that his fault? ....or the scene's?

His fault. There's always great trance music out there that's unheard of if you dig deep enough.

I dont hate Oakey hes just not very good now. Doesnt play much fresh music in his sets and changes the style as randomly as his mixing can be awful. Ill listen to the EM out of curiosity more than anything but the tunes ive heard off his album arnt that great either and copy a lot of other peoples style BADLY (SVD & Gab n Dres for example)

However hes always interesting to go and see just to see if he can recreate any of that 1999-2000 magic he once did with new music as unlikely as it may seen
