holy bro take it easy.

what you have to learn about me is that i post with no sarcasm. i can tell that he is someone that takes pride in his photography and that he won't release a half ass piece of work

so when i said 'taking his time' i meant that in a positive way.

My full review, copy/pasted from Facebook so don't mind if it goes over the stuff I've already said before or mentions some really obvious things:

Due to extreme loafting we only got to the Bell Centre around 11pm, and I was already pretty much ready to spend it in line. People around me were more optimistic though, and by a stroke of luck we got inside before the actual New Year's. But first: Montreal confuses me. Seeing as how some of the girls attending were dressed, I'd think that even the Toronto go-go dancers would go, "Damn girl, how about putting some clothes on?" Note that I'm not complaining. No siree bob. What I said is merely to contrast what I say next. The searches to enter the place was insane. They made me take off my shoes and she felt up my socks, went through my wallet, and checked behind my ear. I've also heard people's mouths were getting checked. Insane. I haven't seen searches this thorough at Christian dances for escaped convicts. But whatever, I wasn't bringing anything in (thanks someone ;) ) so it was just amusing for me to go through it all. Back to what I was saying before, the line, the searching, and the coat check took surprisingly quick, and we were inside some 5 minutes before the countdown. High five!

Entering the place was completely surreal. Since it's a hockey arena, you walk in from the top of the stairs, so imagine you're walking in this dark circular hallway, the music, ever-present, is still somewhat muffled. Then go through the entrance to the main room. It's ing huge. And you're standing there at the top of the stairs, and below you the party unfolds like some some huge moving, living beast. That's how it felt when I first walked in - that there weren't 8000 separate people, but rather just one huge living creature that completely filled the dance floor.

We made our way down the stairs, and entered the dance floor. By this point it was almost time for countdown, so everyone and their mother was down there. It was incredibly packed in the center, and also incredibly loud. I mean INCREDIBLY loud. I've been to my share of loud nightclubs in Toronto, and usually it takes my ears some time for the ear drums to start hurting and for me to notice how loud it is, but here it was obvious as soon as you got in the center and felt all the speakers pumping the bass through you. countdown was OK. I've been to the one at Docks last year, so I didn't expect much. And it wasn't - the music is looped to something, people start counting down at 30 seconds, NYE comes, everyone cheers, and the DJ goes right back to playing his set. One nice touch that they added was blasting imitation snow (which was actually foam) down on everyone after the countdown. That was wicked and I wish they did it more throughout the night. It REALLY made me wanna go to one of those foam parties in Ibiza.

From here, the memories of the night become a tangled mess. The drugs, alcohol, and shifted set times totally confused me as to who was playing when. But I remember the mood of the music well though. I would say for the most night, the music had this really chuggy House feeling. Like some massive machine was working away at something. I think Calderone was the one who set up the feeling like that, and the other DJs continued with it. I actually enjoyed the House a lot. I guess this was a night where I actually caught the House groove, so it was nice to sit, chillax and just listen to the music and enjoy the vibe. Speaking of which, the fact that this was in an arena meant one more thing - that there was plenty of comfortable seating everywhere, all the stairs were numbered so it was easy to find where you are, and you can be sitting and still feel like part of the party (because you are so close to it, lol). Best feeling ever to just comfortably sit there, blaze it up, chat with your friends, and enjoy the awesome music all at once.

Our initial plan was to wait it out till 5am when Tiesto was supposed to go on, and then dance our asses off to his set till he finished. Unfortunately, he was running late, so 5am turned into 5:30am, that turned into 6:30am, that turned into "will be here soon", that turned into "10 more minutes", and finally he came on at 8am. A nice 3 hours late. I don't blame him (it wasn't his fault), but it was still disappointing that he came on sooo damn late. When he started we were all pretty much beat from everything, even though we didn't dance much beforehand. I guess it's the dwindling excitement as he kept getting more and more delayed - without any excitement, it's really hard to feel energetic, especially at 8am. Anyway, he started dropping a really nice set imo - I remember tracks like Moonlight Party, Love Comes Again (Mark Norman mix), Lethal Industry, some remix of Smack My Bitch Up (which totally made my night, because there is one simple rule for making Dima's night - play a Prodigy track. :p ), Who Is Watching, and of course,

IN THIS SIILLENCEE I BELIEEEVVEEEEEEEEE

And considering we heard ALL this in only 1.5 hours or so, he was definitely off to a great set. I just wish we could have stayed longer, but everyone was tired and we needed to get back to the hostel to check out/pay for more time, so we had to leave. Getting back was funny - everyone was acting like their brains were taken out - nobody was really talking, we were all just sitting there on the subway with this blank expression on our faces, totally exhausted.
