I only read the last line;
So here’s the answer. It’s one we sometimes doubted we’d ever witness, but, for the good of the supercar’s evolution, it could hardly be better.
Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn starts today. |

Read the results
Porsche Carrera GT Lap 1:19.70 Peak 120.5
Audi R8 Lap 1:22.10 Peak 113.7
tl:dr version-
If you want to win, buy a Porsche :p |

It still doesn't win in official (not journalist) track times around the Nordschleife, Autozeitung or the Hockenheim against a GT3.
Maybe when it gets the V10. |

Nordschleife! Autozeitung! Hockenheim! Sauerkraut!
I guess I'll shut up and wait for that V10 :p
edit: But getting beaten by a Porsche is still... tolerable. |

Its an interesting look, but its really just not fast enough to be a supercar, its a fast sports car but unless its cracking the 10-11sec quarter mile times.
Probably handles ok being mid-engine but not holding a candle to any of the benchmark Porches in the same kind of money. |
Agreed; no disrespect to the R8, but I feel its 'supercar credentials' need be further examined for admission into the club, as the mere look and feel of one (which the R8 seems to have nailed down) is the only solid competition it puts up against supercars actually deserving of the classification, unless we're talking about the 520 horsepower V10 (which is likely to be quite a different discussion indeed).
I will disagree, however, that the quarter mile benchmark need be set so high; as far as I'm concerned, hitting very low 12's ought to get you into the supercar bracket (at the tail end of it, sure, but certainly in the group). |

| Lets just hope that the V10 R8 doesn't share the same problems as its big brother Gallardo...namely the alarming tendency to burst into flames :p |

Yea but....Porsche? Have they ever made a car that looks even remotely good? |

Crashing at 200kmh into a lampost is more of a porsche thing than a lambo isnt it. Theres a reason why the (early) turbos were nicknamed the widowmaker :P 200kmh into a ligt or tree will do that for you :) ON the other hand lambos tend to be driven slowly, since the most important thing to do in a lambo is to look good (especially if youre italian), and nobody can see how good you look if youre doing 200kmh.
Actually just now i have come up with a theory. Everybody speding in a lambo within city limits must be incredibly ugly, since clearly they dont want people to look at them.
The problem with lambos though, is that you dont need to hit a lamppost for it to burst into flames...

Not over here. I've seen about 3 or 4 of them in the last couple of years wrapped around poles. Not a pretty sight :nervous: |
