yea especially when the country is being run by incompetent executives of oil companies whose only priority is to incubate our national oil addiction, exhaust our surplus on protracted elective war, pad the pockets of the wealthiest 1% of the population and neglect every important domestic issue the country requires attention in.

from my mid-july issue of the economist: from 2002-2006, the incomes of 99% of america rose by an average of 1% a year in real terms, while those of the top 1% rose by 11% a year. 75% of the economic gains during bush's presidency went to that top 1% representing the largest transfer of wealth in american history.

if you support mccain, you support his brand of small politics

This is what happens when you take prayer out of public schools. People start thinking for themselves and long threads ensue. :wtf:

Of course I am. The Dems do not have veto majority either.

While they have been lagging in terms of reversing the damage, I am talking about those responsible for it, not who needs to fix it.

As John Stewart said to Mike Huckabee recently "Basically, you think your party is the best choice to fix the damage done by your party"

Thats as simple as it can be put...

I guess "lagging" is as good as a term as any. "Failing" is another.

You’re quoting John Stewart as a political pundit? He comes off as a second rate douche comedian to me. Wonder what Cedric the Entertainer thinks?

I think prayer has been banned in public schools since 1962.

lagging at what? lagging at something they don't have the political power to accomplish? you're blaming them for not doing something they can't. it's not like they don't want to, but what are they going to do? withdraw funding for the war in iraq and be crucified by the public for not supporting the troops? be blamed for giving up and losing the war for america? if you paid any attention to pelosi on the matter, she's going to allow bush to finish his term out without resistance so that he has no excuse for his failures looking back.

Who would you quote? Dick Morris?

John Stewart is one of the best television political reporters in this country, and he is doing an incredible service to us all. The fact that the best source of news on TV in the US is a comedy show speaks volumes about the state of our media, but that is the way things are...

The only other source for proper news on TV is C-SPAN.

Aside from that, Congress are actually accomplishing a task they have not touched for years under republican control. It's this little thing called oversight. And if you think it is "failing" when congress can't push an agenda because they lack veto power and a big enough majority in the face of an intransigent president, you must have a poor understanding of the political process in this country...

There's one person who is, and has been, most definitely "failing" this country and he lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington DC.

pbs is good at news too, but i prefer reading news. the act of reading requires your brain to process information. the act of watching can be done with your brain in hibernation mode, where it becomes easier to unwittingly absorb opinion and bias. the written word is more easily scrutinized therefore more vigorously checked for accuracy before being published. also reading is good exercise.

Excuses . . .

Defense spending is 4% of GNP. The other 96% is . . . .

There is no way you can defend this congress chaired by democrats.
