Early in the night someone mentioned something about Angello to me as well. But that said, it could be just someone trying to start a bad rumor. I don't know.
If that's what happened that would be funny, because the back half of Alice's House wasn't even close to somewhat full during Angello's. Labyrinth def had more people.
The crowd was still pretty damn grimy overall, even for 18+. That said, it wasn't as scary as an All Ages crowd that's for sure. I read no dust masks, pacifiers, etc and they were out in full force. But, you can only do so much before you really start driving people away, so overall no serious complaints about the crowd. Would of course like to see an actual mature 18+ crowd come out like the rest of the world, but it just won't happen in this society so just have to deal with it. :)
Oh yeah, a highlight of the night...
A photographer recognizing me as the guy who makes "annoying posts" on TA. Bwaha! I do talk a lot of on here, don't I. Just remember, it's just that. Talking . :)
We didn't even stay for Ferry's set. We had a long day overall (had to do a birthday party in the hot ass sun during the day) and that (along with still trying to recover from jetlag myself) wiped us out and left around midnight. There were actually quite a few cars pulled over along the first few miles of getting on the 10 with people seemingly throwing up out the side of the car. Pretty funny...until we ran into run into some huge accident in I10 East that made the road a parking lot (ie. people were freely getting out of their cars). Did some jack moves to get off and eventually cut over to the 60 to get back to LA. Hope nothing bad happened in that accident and hope it wasn't involving anyone who was at Nocturnal. |

| FACKKK! Thats such bull how the trance stage wasn't held in the big tent. When I saw how massive that tent was and the amazing production it held, I was bitter as hell! The lighting and sound was sick!! I really don't know why they switched stages because that tent seemed like it could fit the same amount of people as the trance stage. Weird. I danced a bit at the house stage, but the vibe was way better at the Labyrinth. Simon was great. I never heard Menno before but I was pleasantly surprised at how good he was! Markus was hands down the best tho. I have to dl his track list so if anyone knows what it is please let me know. ATB.... wow.. I saw him in 05 and he blew live. Friends told me he was sick at Heat lounge about a month ago, but all I've been hearing on here for the past month was how wack he is. You guys are spot on. I left early in his set in disgust and went to the drum and bass room which was so fun to dance to! When I was heading back to the trance stage, ATB was playing some rage against the machine. At which point, I found myself yelling out ATBitch and GayTB :haha: Ferry, who I was most anxious to see, was pretty good. He didn't blow me away but I liked his set still. It was tight when he played Coldplay's The Scientist. Everyone singing along to it was amazing! Anyway, that trance line-up delivered big time! Such an awesome memorable night!!! |

Yeah, I agree.. It was still a very young crowd. I thought I would see more people in their mid-twenties and up but its okay. The crowd was pretty chill. A lot of nice people who were just enjoying themselves and not whoring themselves around like at EDC.
As for the Angello rumor, I doubt he has the power to convince Insomniac to switch stages at the last minute. He already knows the star power the trance-line up has so he probably knows his place. Insomniac would not be that disrespectful to Ferry thats for sure. But I do want to know the reason why they switched. Still flabbergasted by that decision. |

I'm not going to say much more on that rumor. I don't know if it has any merit. I wasn't even going to say what I heard about it on here, but someone else brought it up first. So I just mentioned I heard it as well, whether it's true or not.
Beyond that, you'd be SHOCKED at the (absurd) politics that go on in the scene in the US and especially at events like this. I am amazed at the lack of bald promoters from them pulling their hair out over dealing with it all! So if there was an event where stages were switched because of some reason like that, I would not be surprised. |

i was expecting the worse (edc style) but the event actually surpassed my expectations and i thought it was really well done
pros:
1) the production was overall well done. it gets better every year
2) the 18+ vibe was better than all ages, and with less people there was more space to do things. like walk, dance, and jump around
3) it seemed like with less people the event was better organized and easier to maintain by event staff
4) i came kinda late so didn't get a feel for more of the music. but from what i heard it was spot on from markus, beggining of atb, steve angello, and ferry
cons (not really, just being nitpicky)
1) got confused w/ the parking since they closed down the dust lot and there seemed like no where else to park. we figured it out but it took about 30 minutes for them to open the paid lots further down the street.
2) the atm machines broke at one spot, which created a huge line at the other ones. guess that could have been avoided by bringing more cash!
3) my friend literally got groped by the security guy. i know just doing his job. but damn.
4) labyrinth should have been in the 2 story tent.
overall the event restored my faith in attending massive events. first time i didnt leave in a bad mood in a few years. |

| Problem with 18+ is prices will be higher in order for production to increase every year since attendance isnt as strong now. They might have to resort to quicker price increases - a weekend for low prices and then go up drastically from there every few weeks. All massives will have to figure this one out in CA. And imo this and EDC are the two events that focus on production in socal more so than other aspects. |

This was my first time to Nocturnal and the NOS and I had a great time.
Good -
I was really surprised how fast I got in. I was expecting a big cluster f line to get in like EDC but there was no line at will call when I got there (6:30-7PM) and only 7 people in front of me to get in once I picked up my VIP ticket. Plus, the parking lot AKA dirt field was right across the street so you didn't have to walk far at all.
Very short drink lines in the VIP area (1 to 2 people wait) and buffet to try and absorb some alcohol was kind of nice.
I actually liked the layout better than EDC because the stages were fairly close together. At EDC you had to walk so far to get from one stage to another. Lots of restrooms as well so no one had to wait outside of Alice's House.
Probably due to the 18+, but there were hardly any e puddles in the trance tent. It was nice to be able to walk around without having to worry about accidentally stepping on people. At EDC there were so many people on the floor it was amazing that more people didn't get hurt by accidental trampling.
I haven't been following Menno or Simon but I liked a couple of tracks I heard as I walked in and out of the trance tent.
Markus was great. He was probably the one person besides ATB that people knew who he was when he was playing. A lot of people around me seemed to be there just for Markus. I had one guy ask me when Ferry was playing if that was ATB.
Ferry was a good time but it was pretty much a condensed version of his Once Upon a Night show from the Palladium earlier this year. A lot of the same songs and same visuals. I was hoping for more stuff from his Once Upon a Night 2 release but I didn't hear much when I left by around 1:40 to try and avoid the traffic of getting out of the lot which was not bad at all unlike the EDC traffic jam.
Bad -
The trance stage was so underwhelming compared to the house stage. And HOT. I don't think I've ever been to an event that was that hot before. It pretty much felt like a sauna. Way too many shirtless guys pouring with sweat drying themselves on people's clothing as they walked by or fell into you. It wasn't that bad farther back from the front or to the sides, but if you were near the front/center you know what I mean. They definitely need more fans or something to try and get the circulation going.
The house stage was massive with impressive lighting and visuals. No way near as hot as the trance stage either. Kind of bummed that they were switched like that. Markus and Ferry would have been awesome on that stage.
I thought it was weird that they didn't have a VIP area in the trance tent. It kind of sucked that you couldn't enjoy your drinks in the trance tent since you couldn't take them out of the other VIP areas. :( I kind of wondered if people that bought the cabanas thought they were getting a 2nd floor view of the trance acts only to get switched to house. I'm actually into house as well but trance acts fit more with the massive lighting and visual IMO.
Overall, good times for sure and worth the trip for me! |

:tongue2
i wish i could've been there! jealous of all of you guys that were, and i'm hoping some of the sets were recorded- i'd love to hear markus' haha. also...i gotta know that id track that he apparently played (from budapest world tour i think)..he played it at EZ as well and since then i've wanted to know.
modthispny was texting me last night and it made me so jealous- i was at some grimey house party with a dj who my friends and i spent the whole night making fun of and then i'm getting texts about how markus was killing it etc. ahhh |

I don't know anything about the area, so I ended up just paying the $20 and parking in the dust lot right next to the show. Getting out at the end was horrible, but whatever. That's how it is.
As for the crowd, it was definitely young, but I didn't have a problem with any of the people there. I actually loved the crowd, much better than the douchey UFC types you get at most nightclubs. I didn't run into any hard ass kids looking for a fight or anything, just people having a good time.
Also, I've never seen that many hot raver girls in my life. I was flabbergasted. |

ohh ya, the amount of hot girls is astonishing..one problem though is you always see them walking around and in the entrance lines..but they never end up in the trance stage. :(
bet they are either at the house stage, dubstep, d&b, etc. |

Yes, very true. Trance stage has more of a young crowd but they are more friendly making the vibe so much better. I prefer that even though there were hot ass chicks in the house stage. I was there for dada life and I just couldn't get into it. I shoulda gone back there while ATB was playing to check out Angello but instead I wandered around to check out the other stages. Damnn I had so much fun!! Didn't you guys wish it lasted at least an hour longer? Such a happy camper =) |
